Just found another Hawk maker

Wow! Great looking work, as long as you're not planning to go out and bushwhack all day. I don't own a pipe hawk and would love to have a nice one like those to display above my fireplace.

The pipe hawk I saw looks to be built just as tough as the spike and poll hawks. I think you could use it if you wanted to, but it is sooo purddy, I'd hate to bugger it up by throwing it. I saw a pile of about 8 of the throwers and they all had very good head alignment - unlike the CS hawks, which is a crapshoot or worse. The handles were also different than any other hawks I've handled - the top is the standard teardrop/ovalish shape where the head mounts, then it tapers to an almost round butt where you would hold it to throw it. I say 'almost round', because there is still enough egg-shape to 'index' the blade. By 'index', I mean grab the hawk blindfolded and be able to feel the orientation of the tool - If it were tapered to a perfectly round base, you would loose this manditory feature. The handle felt very nice, but the head were not fitted on the throwers - unless you consider the CS hawks as fitted;) All the other hawks had nicely fitted heads. It looks like he uses a very thin layer of deerhide fitted between the head and hasp, then cuts the leather flush with the head.
Hamilton is only an hour away from me, I might have to do a short road trip when I scrape up some cash. I saw a selection of these hawks at a gun show here in Dayton at a reseller's table.

The handle on these hawks (at least the throwers) are very similar, if not the same handles that Two Hawks uses.
