Got my R2 in the mail today and I love it. I have heard mixed reviews about this knife and I am glad I went with my gut because it is one of my favorite Spyderco designs yet.

I have long wanted a knife that was something between a large Calypso and a Calypso Jr. I liked the large Calypso but thought it was just a tad too long for precise blade control and it was not a strudy as I would normally like. The R2 is more sturdy than the Calypso and feels great in my hand. It is just what I have been looking for in a user from Spyderco. Full flat ground VG-10 PE blade and light in weight. I normally prefer tip down but I think this one works better as a tip carry. It is one of the better looking Spyderco as well with the funky handle.

If you want one, they can still be found but I think they will go fast because they only made 600 PE and 600 SE. I got the PE and think it works better as a PE than SE. They are still only about $80 but once the supply runs out, they are going to go way up.

After playing with it for the past day, I have noticed two small flaws. First, the back of the spine showed some tool marks. Just grind marks along the back edge of the spine but I noticed them and they looked a little out of place on such a good looking knife. I sanded them out in 20 mins with some Emory sandpaper. Looks perfect now! The other thing is, the lock-up has a little front to back play. I don't mind a little side to side play but front to back bothers me. It is only a little and I didn't notice at first but it is no Sebenza.

Other than those minor issues, I am impressed as hell with it. It is one of those knives that I would go right out and buy again if I lost it. That is if I could find one. It is one of the best all around Spydercos I have seen. This is the do everything knife I have been waiting for. It could do just about anything you asked of it. It is large enough to be a SD knife if needed. It is light enough to EDC even with light shorts. It is slim enough to not even notice in your pocket. It is elegent enough to look like a gents folder or a office type knife and not scare to many sheeple. The finger choil is really wel placed and I will actually use it unlike some knives.

After about week, the R2 contines to grow on me. Why this knife is ignored is beyond me. I am going to try and aquire as many as I can before these dry up. They are that well designed IMHO. This is such a well thought out knife that I think it deserves more credit than just a sprint run can bring. The problem with a low number sprint run is, people tend to think of those knives as collectables and the R2 should be a user.

I guess nobady cares about the R2 so I will shut the hell up about it.

I think the R2 is a neat knife! I'm glad you are happy with yours. I myself do not own one yet, but it would be a great user for sure, enjoy it:)

I bought one for myself for Christmas. Actually, it's from my dog to me for Christmas. My wife says I'm pathetic and I can't argue that fact....but I did get a new blade out of the deal. He's such a good dog. :D

I haven't checked it out yet but I can tell from holding the box that it's very lightweight. Along with a full flat grind VG-10 blade I imagine it'll have to be a winner. I'll report back my impressions on Christmas day.

I have two dogs but they never get me anything for X-Mas. I think this year I will be a little bolder with the hints and maybe they will get the message.

Hey, it works for me. As a married man I have to be creative. :D

That's married man ingenuity right there! Why didn't I think of that!

Lets see, we have two cats, one dog, and 15 birds...
that's 18 new blades multiplied by 3 (xmas, my b day, fathers day) = 54 new blades/flashlights/guns per year!!!

Simply brilliant... I really need to step up the purchasing pace now. ;)

I really like this knife! It was my first Spyderco other than a Spydercard I have had for a while. I also purchased an S30v Native recently. Guess I am now a Spyderco convert. The R2 fits my hand perfectly and I love the design. In fact, I like it so much, I just purchased my second one to have as a keeper [backup]. I use the first one as my edc. It is in my pocket all the time.
