Just Got my CUDA MAXX!!!

Grinning from ear to ear says it all. I remember laughing out loud when I got my first Maxx. What a monster ... :D

I keep one in the kitchen as one of the best slicing and dicing knives I've got.

One of the guys has a thread now on modifying the Maxx with a low carry clip where he ran into a problem with reaching in and finding a blade tip cutting his pants: Mad at my Maxx!!!.

I find I can carry it in a back pocket, grab it by the horns and pull it out, and drop one horn on the pocket edge, snapping it open.

i dont like waving because

1. they eat away the corner of your pockets and

2. sometimes you'll mess up and cut your pants.

given how fast the maxx flicks open anyways i'd just carry it tip-down

Not my idea but from another forum member: he attached a brass ring to the butt of the handle to facilitate a fast tip up draw using the pinky or third finger (Kerambit style). I did the same thing, using the thong hole to mount the clip and a piece of brass I cut down to finger-ring shape. It works super fast and looks unusual (like drawing a fully open blade in a flash), but does draw attention to the ring/clip during carry. This works in either front or back pockets, with the blade trapped against the pocket seam. If drawing from the rear pocket, I rotate the ring/scale along the axis of the knife slightly to cause the horn to press into the pocket material then slide up to the top seam. Front pocket slacks give the best draw wave-style. For jeans, rear pocket carry is more comfortable. My co-workers (guys) usually ask to "see the big knife" every few days.

Question, which do you prefer the stiletto or the bowie blade, I am going to make the cuda maxx my first real knife purchase. What quality blade steel is D2 compaired to the others........reguards

bowie is more functional, stiletto looks much much better. i have the stiletto.

I recommend the Bowie style blade as it is ever so much more functional.

For those of you who keep modifyig the MAXX for tip-up carry, you should just pray that the blade does not begin to come open in your pocket. If it does, you are in for serious hurt. There is a reason why Camillus will not make one in a tip-up version. It is called liability for injury.

Nice choice. That knife is on my wish list. I read one reviewer saying he didn't like the pocket clip and recommended carrying it in a sheath. I haven't handle one yet and wondered if anyone else had a problem with the clip?

Zeus36, nice job! Looks a lot like mine (hey, there are only so many ways to bolt a brass ring through the thong hole, huh?). :D

It does make for a really easy fast-draw from a pocket. Plus, it looks sorta cool.

It seems to me, that the only reason the MAXX was made tip-down carry is to avoid any legal issues with Emerson's patented "wave".
No, that's just the way Darrel Ralph likes to orient his knives.

I agree it's a problem with tip down, that they don't press against a right-hand pocket seam. The only answers I can think of are back pocket or left front.

I have the "dagger" version of the maxx.. and the edge is just too thick to cut well.. some day i will send it in to be rebladed with a bowie.. but it was a gift from an ex.. kinda like it for that reason.,

i have a cammilus and a ralph version of the maxx and have worried about the horn catching on the pants and starting it to open but have never had it happen yet, but i do see how it could, i dont know if tip up would be better, maybe it would. if ya put the low profile pocket clip on the cammilus version imho its worse in this regard imho. gotta be carefull w/them..........
