It's not as sharp as I read in the Coldsteel Catalog, which made me a little disappointed. I'm looking forward to go on with further tests outside.

I bought for 615 RMB including shipping from a website. That's the cheapest price I can find in China......Just now I searched the old threads and found out you guys can buy one with only 50$( about 415 RMB)......:(

Ni hoa Kuangwei! :)

let me be there first to tell you: Welcome here! And enjoy your stay

I don't have any experience with the SRK, i only held it once in a shop.... It felt and looked as a quality fixed blade! :)
Sharpening should take care of your problem i guess ...But i'm sure many wiser folks here will be able to give u more advice! ;)

Yeah.. i know what u mean withc "cheap and cheap" :s I live in Europe..and believe me, we have thesame problem as you!! i would easily pay 100$ for a SRK in Belgium...just like you in China..

Anyhow, see you around!

thanks for your kind reply:)
THis is the first time I post in this forum.
I tried to my SRK to chop a bamboo, and the result is disappointing.
But I agree with you : maybe it's just a grinding problem. When I have time I'll try...

and I'm surprised to see you using Chinese words "Ni hoa"(means hello/how are you) and "Zaijian"(means byebye) haha:) Did you learn Chinese before?

I'll be glad to write down some everyday Chinese sentences here if anybody wants to learn......Very easy to pronounce because they're much shorter than English sentences with the same meaning!

Eg:
English: Thank you
Chinese: Xie xie(oh, this phonetic does exist in English) or Duo xie

English: Doesn't matter. You're welcome
Chinese: Bu yong(jong) xie

English: I love you
Chinese: Wo ai(I) ni
(wo means I, ai means love but pronounced as "I", ni means you)

English: How much is it?
Chinese: Duo(do) shao Qian(chan)?

English: Too expensive!
Chinese: Tai(Ti) Gui le!

You live in Belgium too ? Yeah, buying a knife here is a real pain in the wallet and in the a**. Tai Gui le! :D

Greetings Kuangwei

I love in South Africa and can empathise with you paying "Tai Gui le" for you knives, as we have the same problem here.

I have several CS models and have yet to buy a blunt one. The SRK does seem a bit thick at the edge, but there are probably more knowledgeable people on this forum who can advise you on this.

Welcome to the forums, and enjoy your knives. Say, you got anythng else from Cold Steel or Syderco, or is this a new collection?

hi Andre
That is my first bought fixed blade knife. My father made many knives without heat treat for me.
I'm pretty curious about what you usually do with your CS knives...For me south Africa is a beautiful and legendary place. Hope I can be there someday.

I thinned the edge on my SRK back with a fine file and ended up with a convex edge that is scary sharp. An excellent choice if you could have only one knife in a survival situation, IMHO.

不知道 能不能贴中文。。。
据说有一批到中国的srk有问题。
原因是刃部回火失败
解决方法是把上面一层刃磨掉。
新刃会有冷钢应有的表现。

我睇到呀!
(I can read Chinese on this forum !)

However, I wonder if other non-Chinese members can read what you and me are posting. :p

Hi quangwei!
Thanks for the chinese vocabluary! i knew a few word of chinese myself...it's kind of a long story, but it has alot to do with me getting to know a very pretty and sweet Chinese girl last year ;)
She left belgium, but i still remeber some chinese words :)

Zwatlap, nice to meet some fellow Belgians here!! :) ben jij ook lid van weapons.be?

Anyhow, good luck with the SRK!

ZAijian, Davy

I couldn't see it in Windows. Booted into Linux and it showed up fine. The only problem is I don't know Chinese...

唔好意思,我唔係美國出世,我係香港人!

Yes, there are a lot of American born Chinese (not chinese ! :) ) there, but there are also many who are not born in U.S.A.

也有很多大陆地区的中国人………… :d

Kuangwei,

Welcome.

You should check out the Asian and Australian Knife Community in the Community section. Quite a number of Chinese born outside China frequent there.

I myself am a Chinese, 3rd generation in Malaysia.

Also look out for Jason Cutter, knife maker extraodinaire. He is also Chinese, originally from Malaysia, now living in Australia.

Local knife prices, for the very limited selection available, are quite outrageous too. Paying for shipping from US and local tax is till cheaper. If possible you may want to consider this option.
