Well after all the months of waiting, my TAK finally came to my house. Im still waiting for my RAT3 but at least my TAK is here. Im having mixed feelings on the knife. I like it dont get me wrong but the handles are really heavy and to me the sheath is not what i expected it would be. Its ok but not as nice as i wanted. What exactly is Micarta handles anyway. Whats so special about them? They seem really heavy to me. I like the blade really well and the knife seems to be built like a tank. Mine came in 1095. Can anyone give me a review of this knife? I think its gonna be a great woods knife. I just want to know a little more about it. Thanks guys. This will be my main outdoor carry knife.

I had an RTAK 2 for a while that I gave to my brother for a trip. I really liked it. Loved the thinner blade, is great for use in more southerly climates IMO. Kinda of a high quality machete of sorts. As for micarta, it is a composite of layered linen/paper fibers held together with some resin. Very durable and grippy even when wet. I will get one again when the cutlery co. offers one. I didnt find the handle all that heavy myself, but it is pretty robust. Should serve you well.

RtakII and the TAk are different blades all together.the Tak is a bit handle heavy and the scales are thick but you can remove the scales and thin them out with a belt sander(get ready for a mess) but it can be done.I think the Tak is a great main camp blade.. great all-around camp/field blade I have a pair one 1095 & D2 Plain edge.

the TAK is the little bro to the RTAK,RTAK has a 10"blade vs. TAK 4" blade (guesstimating blade DIM) both readily available from Ontario

waiting for my tak to get here myself, can't wait to dish it some dirty work!

As for the sheath, I'm dissapointed in the quality and cosmetic of it, but my wife will do some leather work and fix me up a nice one, like she did for my BK7 ;)

I know the sheaths are not spec-ops quality but to me I think there better that the sheath than came with the Becker line-up...man those were aweful.

I just bought this pair.
I LOVE them! I havent used the TAK 1 yet but it feels great to me. I just chopped up about half a tree last night (with the RTAK II) I really like the RTAK!
I just ordered a RAT-7 now, I hope its as good as the first 2!
Here's a few pics.

Is there an aftermarket sheath for the TAK? I would be interested in buying one. Like i said i love the knife, other than it being a little handle end heavy, I love it, I just dont like the sheath at all....Oh and by the way, can i use the TAK for chopping?

if the TAK is "too thick" for you, you'll love the RAT-3. it's nice and thin and light. not as stout feeling in the hand like the TAK, but that's only cuz it wasn't meant to be that way. awesome edc.

this is the reason i never got the TAK. and the same reason why i'm salivating over the RC-4 :D

To be honest with you, we've never been overly impressed with the Ontario RAT line of sheaths either. They could be better but corporate never would let us upgrade them due to $$$. In fact, that's the main reason we started our own line with RAT Cutlery, so we could upgrade the quality in both the knives and sheathing.

The TAK is a great knife. A little heavy for some and just right for others. It will do light chopping well if you choke back on the handle.

I suggest you look at some of the sheath makers around here, Normark for instance will put together a good Kydex or Concealex sheath for you. Also, I love my Spec Ops Survival Sheath, but I got it as part of a good deal from a forum member.

Yeah im gonna get another sheath for it. Moderator can Rat Cutlery make or sell me a better sheath for my knife. I love the knife, i have gotten use to the weight. It dosnt bother me like i thought it would. Im glad though that yall told me the RAT3 is lighter in weight. Im getting one of those to when it comes in. It will be my everyday carry knife. The TAK is great for the woods though but not everyday carry. I dont have enough butt to keep my pants up as it is. haha

We have no way of getting you a better sheath for the TAK. Some day, we may produce the TAK through RAT Cutlery which would mean we would upgrade the sheath and knife quality substantially. Which is what we did by making the RC-3 (which is basically an upgrade to the RAT-3).

Ok, well thanks anyway. I must admitt when my wife orderd my TAK and RAT3 from BrigadeQuartermaster that i did not know R.A.T Cutlery exsisted. I would have had her to order from yall, but since she orderd them as a Christmas present I cant complain to her about them. Ill just be happy with what i have. Ill get an aftermarket sheath made for it. Thanks anyway.

There are some great after-market sheaths out there. Normark does exceptional work, IMO.

It seems from the descriptions that the TAK is better for men with large hands, whereas the RC-4 would be best for those with normal size hands, would that be accurate?
Also, does the short Spec-Ops Combat Master (IIRC they no longer make the survival sheath) sheath fit the TAK well?

I think that's a reasonably fair statement. If you have really large hands then the RC-4 is probably going to be a bit too small for you.

I know that TAK is one Tuff knife. Man I have been using it guys and i am simply amazed at the tuffness of it. Like i said mine is in 1095. I love that steel. I just cant hardly wait till my RAT3 gets here. Of course this has taken the place of my Buck119 and to me that was a great knife, so you know i have to love it.

Ok, so... I have A TAK in both D2 and 1095. When I put them side by side, I noticed that the 1095 was a bit thiner than the D2, which is very thick.

Has anyone noticed this or should I return the blade? The 1095 is really a bit more thin than the D2.
