Does anyone have experience with this makers knives? Are they worth the price? What are you impressions of this makers work?

Thanks

I currently have 2 folders and have owned others. His fit and finish are second to none. He is as good as they get.

Steven, if you look on the blade tang in between the 2 bolsters you will see a diamond with JWS inside of it. That is how John marks his knives. John's fit and finish are usually flawless and his knives are smooth. He is also a good guy to deal with, must be something in that Kaintucky water.

I would have to agree that J.W. Smith makes some of the nicest knives around. As to whether they are worth the price, that is always subjective. I would reply with a strong yes to that question. IMO they are worth every penny being asked for them.

His work is great and worth the price, and one helluva nice guy.

His mark looks like this.

I have had three of his folders. All were perfect. Nice match up on the bolster to handle scale. I never met the guy but he must be nice if Dave said so.

Nice pics Phil

Les,
Agree totally on John W. Smith - fantastic work!
This begs the question as to who your other top 4 are? Would you be so kind as to enlighten us who are waiting with baited breath?

Carson, Ralph, Mayo, Onion, Herman, Kious, Chew, Jernigan, Ron Newton, Bradshaw, Munroe, Dunkerley,
Osborne, Gallagher, Lake, Walker, Bose, Horn, Dellana, Hoel, Barnett, Centofante come to mind & there are more!

Anybody else who wants to chip in with their top 5, please do so - be interesting to know what it is that leads you to put certain makers at the top of the list.

Bill
