I saw that KA-BAR won a "best buy of the year" award from Blade magazine for a trio of Bbb Dozier designed folders. $19.95 plus a modest shipping charge (AG Russell) for a KA-BAR folder sporting an AUS8 blade was to tempting to resist, so I decided that I needed one.
The knife arrived a week after placing the order and when I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised. The fit and finish is exceptional ($20 - really?).
The blade is hollow ground and very sharp right out of the box. The blade shape is quite handsome and it doesn't have a single scratch or manufacturing mark on it. The handle is Zytel, imbossed with imbedded checks for a decent grip. The thumb stud and clip are both reversable.
The clip is positioned such that when I clip it inside of my Levi's front pocket, I can easily get a finger and thumb grip on both sides of the top of the handle, making it easy to extract.
I have used the knife for various chores for a couple of days and it's a keeper, actually, this under $20 Taiwanese built folder is one of my favorites.
