I was wondering the quality of the Ka-Bar USMC combat knife. Will it hold up? How does it compare to other knives similar to it? I was just wondering because I might want to get one if it turns out to be a fairly good knife.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

The Ka-Bar is a very good knife, and will hold up under a lot of hard use. Especially for the price, it's a good deal.

But like every tool, it has its limitations, and you need to know if its right for the specific job you have in mind. Actually, since it was originally a modified Marbles knife, it is a naturally effective camp or hunting knife.

theres probably no one on this board who use a kabar like i do. i carry one as a EDC and i currently own 6 or 7 of them. there ruggid knives and will stand up to alot. sometimes you hear of them breaking but usually because of blatent abuse.

i do beat mine quite often, between being a edc and throwing them ive never broken one. if you search kabar videos theres some that ive posted of me throwing a kabar threw pine boards and "fighting" a practice pole.

Designs and materials only tend to last if they've got something going for them.

The USMC design and 1095 steel are both still here, and are both still going strong.

17 years after buying it, my Ka-Bar USMC is still solid and useful.

Thanks for the info Esav Benyamin and KaBar :)
Very helpful, I actually was looking for a knife that might do good camping, and hiking. I never knew they could be a good throwing knife so i might have to check this knife out! Thanks again!

you can think 8 hours of practice a day lol. once i nailed a squirl 25 feet or so in to a tree and got it on video. it sucked because i had to climb up there to get my lunch and knife back.

what sucked worse was that there wasent enough light and the video did not take :grumpy:

besides kabars are just a start, once the bug bites you your hooked. im on my second benchmade now. ive got a 806d2 and a carbon fiber 770 both edcs along with the kabar in custom hand made leather sheeths :D
