hey everybody

i have the emerson tactical folding karambit with wave feature etc etc.

i've looked and looked and not found what i need to know.

Q: is this knife legal to carry in California?

thanks

I'm a CA folding karambit carrier, and I'm fairly certain it's legal, since a folding karambit is simply a folder with a curved blade. I've looked at the knife laws and see no mention of karambits as a knife distinct from others, so I can't see it being classified as anything other than, quite simply, a "non-switchblade" (CA's own legalese) folding knife.

Living in California has the great advantage of having this page on knife laws.

I would say a Karambit is perfectly legal. You can also carry a Vaquero Grande or something if you want.

Just don't show Senor Policia the benefiets of the Wave feature.

Edit - Beaten.

A personal story then.

My knife dealer, The Stockade in Westminster, CA, owns and carries a waved Emerson. They do not sell anything illegal, nor would he be caught carrying anything illegal on the job. So don't worry about the wave.

Also, the more I play with this chinese copy of the Emerson Karambit, the more I want one of the originals. The price tag and liner locks are my turnoffs ;[
