I am thinking about buying a Katz LionKing, Do any of you have one? Please let me know what they are like!

I've got a mid 90s Katz 302, which looks like the same knife.

It is well made, takes and holds a good edge, and the handle is comfortable for extended use.

From memory, it's made out of XT80, which is like ATS 34.

David,

Katz say these are General or all Purpose Knives! Do you agree? What do you use your Katz knife for?

Katz makes good stuff. See if you can find one of those Lion Kings with the ivory micarta handles. Those are really nice.

I have Lion King for this Christmas. Did not use it too much, but it is very well designed and very well made knife - blade shape, balance, grip etc. - nothing to complain. Here some pictures:

Thanks, Vassili.

Rick,

I have used the knife around the farm, for camping, and for processing game.

It is one of the best all round designs I have used/owned.

My Uncle regularly uses his for butchering cattle and pigs.

I now usually carry my Busse SFNO for general use, but have every intention of hanging on to the Katz.

Just keep in mind, this XT80 steel is kinda like ATS34, only I think it's more wear resistant(read that as harder to sharpen). Not excessively so, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Good knives. The owner doesn't do a ton of advertising, so not many folks know about them, but they are sturdy blades. Like D-day said, the blades are a little harder to sharpen but they take a wicked edge.

Rick,

The ivory micarta handle looks very nice, but I chose the kraton handle (I assume it's Kraton) because I wanted mor comfort for extended use.

If you can hold the knife before you buy it, and the micarta handle feels really comfortable, the micarta would be a very nice option.

Since reading your post yesterday I've pulled my Katz out of the cupboard. I had forgotten just how nice a knife it is.

What kind of Sheath comes with the Knife? Katz new WebPage does not show a Sheath or talk about it on the WebPage.

My sheath is super - made in Spain, thick leather (1/8"), scandinavian half handle type. Very well designed also.

Thansk, Vasya.

Do you guys know of retailers that have cheaper prices on these knives than the Katz WebPage? One Member put on Knivesplus.Com so I will look on there, Any other sites I can get a good deal on this Knife would be helpfull! Thanks!!
