I brought a Kershaw Scallion Knife yesterday, returned it for an exchange of a Kershaw Blackout Knife.
After playing with the Kershaw Scallion I found it to be to small for self defense. Now for the Kershaw Blackout, now that's a knife.

What's the purpose of the para cord at the end of knife?

The paracord is just for looks...

The Kershaw Whirlwind (the satin version of the Blackout) was actually used in the movie The Departed by Matt Damon I believe. Where he hides around the corner of a truck and stabs an Oriental worker, thinking that it's Leonardo DeCaprio.
