Key Knife

I searched the forums but didn't see any in the idea I was thinking. I figured someone must make them and what better to ask.

What I am thinking is a knife that is shaped basically like a key. It would fit on your keychain and unless closely inspected would look like an ordinary key from a distance.

I did a terrible 1am mock up of my thought. The solid light grey area is the blade and the red area is possibly used to secure a thin metal sheath over the blade. Like a U shaped piece that slides into groves on either side of the blade and possibly a bump/ridge to secure it in place. Something like this in stainless:

Is there something like this out there? Would it be too small to be practical or damage too easily (getting bent).

Well its 1am and I am running on little sleep this past week so if its silly enjoy the laugh and don't knock me too hard ;)

Cheers,
Bill

David Winston did a key knife in different models, including Damascus.
The Utili-key is an inexpensive multitool that easily passes for a key.
I've also come across a small blade that folds up into a key-shaped handle.

Bill,

Here is a picture of what I made. Thanks to the good people here at BF I was able to move quite a few. If you would llike to have a go at them please be my guest and good luck. Once again, it is really hard to make something in the knife world that is not similar to something else. Hope this helps.

David,

Those look fantastic! It is indeed hard to find an original idea. I figured this would be the place to ask. I am not really setup to make my own knives but if I ever get a good shop setup I will try.

Do you still make them or have leftovers you'd be willing to part with? If so email me at bill_briand@hotmail.com

Oh in case shipping is an issue I am from Canada.

Cheers,
Bill

Thanks, Hard H2O. The Garret Wade is the 3rd key knife I was thinkiing of! I have the other two and I've used the Utili-key a few times. It is definitely the easiest multitool to carry around. :)

oops. I did try googling key knife without the quotes and musta been too wrapped up in my thought to really click around. Usually I'm the one thinking man can't that guy use the search button (or Google). Guess it was my turn to :foot:

The past 24 hours just have not been kind to me ;)

Thanks for your replies.

Cheers,
Bill
