Key ring knives?

I am looking for a new very small knive to carry in my key ring. I already have a Spyderco Honeybee (16 g) and I like that blade a lot. It is a great piece of tool for the small tasks and always with me in my key ring.

I could buy another Honeybee (or Bug, which is the same but smaller, my wife has one) because it really is a handy blade, but I would like to try something different just out of curiosity. The problem is that I don't know if there are any real options for the Spyderco. The two main mandatory features for the knife are:
- Weight under 30 g, preferably under 20 g, less is more
- Attachable to a key ring

Actually the only possibility I have come up with is the Victorinox Fizz or the Victorinox Classic 58 mm. Compared to the Spyderco the blade feels not so strong. Naturally that is because of the nail file and scissors taking their portion of the weight and space.

And of course there is the Spyderco Ladybug, 18 g, costs more but has VG-10 blade. I might go for that one if there are no other acceptable options.

So the question is, are there other small knives that are comparable to the Spyderco Honeybee? Victorinox-like tools are also accepted, if they have a blade and they match the two requirements above.

I had this same issue not long ago. The best two I found were the Spyderco Ladybug and Boker keycom. I went with the Ladybug. Light , sharp and well made.

The ladybug is the best one out there. Personally I prefer the h1 serrated hawkbill version especially if you carry a larger plain edge blade as your main knife.

Pick up a Spyderco Ladybug or Manbug.
If you wanna go for a little more expensive, there's the Spyderco Jester in Grey G-10.

L-R; Spyderco Ladybug Salt(Countycomm),Buck Nano Bantam, Case Blackhorn, Gerber LST
All good, all reasonably priced.

I agree with the others. For what you want, the Ladybug is your best option.

I have pretty bulky keys as is but i still like to have a little knife on them. Ive tried alot of little knives. and i just tend to stick to my Spyderco Bug. Its small enough to not make a noticble different on my already large keys. but the blade is still big enough for the occasional cutting loose thread off a jacket or opening mail or what have you. though i have thrown my Vic Classic on there in its place, both good options i just prefer my bug

I carried the Cold Steel Micro Recon 1 on my keys for a while. I like to hang weights off my keychain knife. :p

I like the Kershaw Two Can. A nice little wharncliffe blade and scissors all in one!

I have a ladybug, and have used and abused it. Great knife, and resists everything that gets thrown at my keys. (including rain!)

I carry the Cold Steel Micro Recon 1 also. I got the spear point version and it's great. It's a little bulky, but feels solid in hand. Haven't tried the Spyderco's mentioned above yet so can't comment on those.

I did have a Ladybug long ago, but I found the hole can catch on something and deploy by accident. They need one with half the hole hidden in the handle, to be used like a thumb-nick.

Vic Alox Classic is another good keyring knife. It is really thin (about half the thickness of a regular Classic SD) and weighs in at 0.6oz (17g). It really isn't much more noticeable than just another key on the key ring. The aforementioned Ladybug is also a good one.

Thanks for your input everybody! You presented many nice knives. I think I go for the Ladybug, it seems to enjoy huge popularity and I believe it is for a reason. I'm going to buy the one with serrated/combo blade. My usage would mostly be cutting stuff and tearing things open so I guess the short serrated blade would be spot-on effective for those tasks.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

If you're one that appreciates a nice Keychain Knife I'd say go all out and get that LadyBug. I've got a H1 FS Ladybug and have found it to cut incredibly aggressively and IMHO all out of proportion to its size. If you want to go with the full serrations I'd say opt for the H1 seeing as it has more edge retention than the VG-10.

I recommend the Victorinox Classic. It's the one knife I always have with me, because it is on the key ring. Many people underestimate it because it is "just" a Swiss Army Knife, but it will do all the EDC chores you ask. Scissors, Screwdriver, and nail file are also very useful. My wife asks to borrow it from time to time because she knows I always have it. Toothpick gets used for cleaning out dirt in tight places, or working on surfaces I don't want to scratch. You will probably already have a big blade for the tough tasks. The Classic adds a ton more utility for very little weight and bulk. Abuse the thing and see if it fails. It hardly costs anything, anyway.

I don't carry any knives with my keys, but I have several that could fill that role. If I were to, they'd be:

SRM 702
SRM H03
Fallkniven U2

I'd throw the GB Air in there too, but it doesn't have a lanyard hole.

I went with the vic rambler. I always have a pocket knife on me so having the toothpick, tweezers and bottle opener is a big plus for the keychain knife.
