I don't want to be a heretic, :D
but does anyone have any
alternate sheaths for their khuks?

Someone here, forgot who, designed and made a Kydex sheath for a khuk. The point and brass cap on the sheath emphasis the knife. There are times that isn't such a good idea.

What I've been wondering is how well the knife will stay while in the mountains. Nepal is the mountains, so it's probably excellent at staying put.

Cold Steel and Brigade Quartermaster both have a Kydex sheath for their Khuks but they all have rubber handles that get pinched in the top of the sheath. I don't know whether any HI Khuk would work in them.

If the Khuk fits the sheath snug at all, I don't think I would worry about losing the knife unless you stand on your head. Other than that a custom shoulder rig is all I can think of that would be any better. I haven't seen any of them.

There's quite a few Terry Sisco customs out there and Ron Strachan has probably 40 or 50 custom scabbards in the field. Both have pretty much retired now so the US sarkis available is pretty much zero until somebody else steps up.

If it ain't broke...

That said; the shape of a khukuri means that drawing it out of a scabbard or sheath is potentially dangerous. Anybody got any suggestions for reinforcing the danger area (ie the inside or edge side of the scabbard) without the risk of blunting the edge?

Currently I'm thinking a pressed/brazed sheet steel or aluminum scabbard with a saddlery leather lining to keep the edge from getting wiped off when the blade's drawn.

No kydex for me, at any rate...

Fiberglass or epoxy? What about a really soft metal like copper?

Uncle Bill sometimes suggests wrapping with wire. Depending on how much wire one used it would probably protect you from slicing the fingers if the sheath broke.
