Hi there,
I am looking for a (not too heavy) khukuri and found several interesting knives tested by members of the blade forum. Himalayan Imports and Gurkha-House as well as the Cold-Steel khukuries seem to be well known and tested - but did anyone ever try a khukuri from the Khukuri-House in Nepal (www.khukurihouse.com) they seem to be comparable cheap (ranging from 19 to 30 $) but after all I have seen on their internet-page I think tis could be quite good knives too.
I found the 12 inch "Ang Khola" of HI and the "Nepal Army" (13 inches)of Khukuri House could meet my demands.
I live in Germany, so I would have to pay shipping costs anyway (either from Nepal for a cheaper khukuri or from the US for a more expensive (but better???) one. I would be glad to hear from you.

Hi Pan, I think Gurkha House's khukuris were made by Khukuri house! I don't think Gurkha House is in business anymore.

Himilayan Imports are truly in a class of there own and are far superior to the others! Go to there website and get ready for a little reading!;)

P.S. Bill Martino of H.I. will also take good care of you and will make sure you are a happy camper no matter what!

Welcome Pan,
I will second what Chris said about going to Himalayan Imports for your khukuris. "Uncle" Bill Martino is a great man to deal with. He is a fun man to do business with, and he will work hard to ensure that the khuk you get is the right one for your situation and needs. Not to mention HI khuks are the finest that I have encountered. Have fun in your search and I hope you find the blade that meets your needs and desires. BTW, there are quite a few people from part of the globe and even further away that buy their khukuris from Uncle Bill.

I'll third what Chris said about Bill and HI khukuries. I have bought 10 from Bill this year and have found Bill's service second to none. However, I recently bought a Service Number One and a Cheetlang direct from Khukuri House. Lalitkumar Lama (the owner of Khukuri House) made the Service Number One especially for me by extending the handle by 1/2 inch at my request. Reviews had said that the standard handle size on the Service Number One was fine for the Gurkhas but too small for most European hands. This particular Service Number One weighs only 18 ounces and is sort of a cross between a HI Sirupati and a HI British Army Service (it turned out to be 15 and 3/4 inches long). It is one of my favourites and it is hard to believe it only cost me twenty something dollars for a custom built knife of this quality. The extended handle fits my hand beautifully and this knife is amazingly fast to swing. The two smaller knives with each khukuri are bigger and of much better quality in the HI khukuries. The HI blades are better finished and have a more polished surface and more fancy scroll work. However, the Khukuri House khukuries I bought have distinct and more pronounced convex shapes to their blades than most of my HI blades and appear really well made. The handles on my Khukuri House knives appear as good as the HI khukuries in every respect and better than some I have received from HI in the quality of their finish. Lalitkumar's Service is not as good as Bill's. Lalitkumar sometimes takes a while to answer emails but he eventually does. If I lived in the USA, it would be hard to go past HI considering no postage costs and Bill's lifetime guarantee. But when you live overseas you pay the same postage cost no matter which dealer you buy from. I think as buyers we are very lucky, we win whichever of the two dealers we buy our khukuries from.
