Here is a nice Indian sossun pata in its dagger form. You can call it khukuri's cousin or its great grandpa, but either way it's a knife worth looking at. Probably from the mid 19th century.

John,
When you refer to this as the "dagger" form, do you mean the top edge is sharpened? Looks to me like it would be a very ungainly stabbbing weapon with so much drop, though it should be a great slasher.

Berk,
The dagger form refers to the length and nothing else. There is still some question of calling this a sossun patta since that appellation is usually applied to the swords.

Hi John,

I always look forward to anything you post - informative comments and beautiful pix.

This is an absolutely stunning blade. Beautiful. I wonder if this is related to the kanjarlis (sp?) style I've seen in other threads on BF, or is that just a Nepalese word for the Hindi Sossun pata dagger style?

Do you have any opinion on this?

Snuffy,
I will look into the kanjarlis vs sossun patta. If I find anything substantial I will post immediately.

Thanks for your nice comments. I really enjoy sharing my knives with anyone who is really interested.

Hey John,
could you take a look at the Chakma thread? I'm hoping you may be able to answer a few questions.
