Have you ever made a knife and nearly lost it but managed to change it just a little to save the blade.
I would like to hear stories about that one, plus did you tell your customer what went on.

Wow not even one reply.

I was hoping it would turn into a how to fix your mistakes thread for newbies.

I mucked up my first hidden tang by over grinding the wood and I broke into the tang slot ,mixed up some glue and saw dust to plug the hole a little but it still shows up darker than the rest of the handle so I was thinking of adding a little dye to the area, any thoughts ???

Probably because you're in the wrong forum. Wouldn't this rightly belong in the Maker's forum?

Yep. You put it where knifemakers really only rarely visit. Around the Grinder would be the better forum.

However, with your question in mind. I am sure many blades have been scrapped but many have been reprofiled to save them or made full flat grind instead of a sabre type grind and stuff like that. Others may have ended up shorter. We all do it. I have this policy of not working when anyone is in the shop with me. All my worst accidents where I've physically hurt myself or when I've ruined projects have occurred when I've had visitors and when I don't focus as I would undistracted.

One of the worst screw ups I made was when my cat somehow found his way into my shop without my knowledge of it and jumped up to greet me when I was grinding a blade. Scared the living daylights out of me. It ruined the blade. There was no saving that one unfortunately.

Yes. I have changed the design of knives if I screw it up. It just takes a little bit to figure out how to work around it or make it look like it was meant to be.

"I meant to do that."
