Let's see those excuses...ahem practical and logical reasons for buying a new knife. :D

This one is for work
This one is for hunting/camping
For the car
It comes highly recommended
It was on sale! (eek! i'm talking like my wife!)
It's a sprint run!
I bought it to bump up my Amazon cart total for the free shipping

In case I loose this one (when buying seconds)
THIS will be THE perfect edc for me
It`s a sprint run/limited edition
What if I want to buy it later but it`s not availible anymore

Think of the re-sell value in a few years. Ive only sold one knife off, and it was a duplicate.

Not to bring things down...

One of my co-worker's son in law was killed in a worksite accident yesterday. He leaves behind his wife and young child.

I often think I've got waaaay too much stuff, knives at the top of this list. Then something like this happens to a young man.

Don't put yourself in the poorhouse over your hobbies, but buy what you enjoy. Life is short, have some nice things. When you're gone, you ain't gonna really care how much stuff you had accumulated or what you paid for it.

So sorry to hear about it. I also agree, don't put yourself in the poorhouse, but in another way when I pass I want my family to have the items that I enjoyed. Knives are a part of the activities I do with my family: hunting, fishing, hiking, camping. I want them to say my Dad gave me this to remember him always.

This one is for when I'm going to work
This one is for when I'm walking the dog
This one is for short hikes
This one is for long hikes
This one is in case all hell breaks loose
This one is in case all hell breaks loose and I'm not near that other knife
This one is for jeans
This one is for shorts
This one is for slacks
...

You get the idea.

I spend my cigarette money on my hobbies (one of the advantages to not smoking)... ...with the price of cigarettes lately I probably should be buying more stuff.

Discontinued. I keep having knives I want get discontinued before I buy them. :( I have gotten licky a few times getting them right as their prixe drops from being discontinued ( my Bm 13960 and UKPK I got at significant discount after their cancellation was announced). I will regret not getting an Orange UKPK when I had the chance. Until I get one, probably at double its MSRP...

"If I don't buy this one, someone else will!"
"This will be discontinued at some point, might as well get one while they have them in stock!"
"If I don't like it, I can always sell it"
"This will sell for AT LEAST what I paid if money becomes tight"
"I'll use this one while my other's having work done, and sell it after." (and then never sell it)

Those are the ones I tend to use on top of the plethora of excuses for different uses.

If all else fails "can't die with the money, might as well spend it." (This excuse is one I tend to use often, no disrespect intended to the above post)

My Dad always says he's spending my future inheritance before I can - seems to work well for him.

Very well put. I would hate to leave my family in debt and have $10,000 worth of knives sitting in the gun safe.

LOL that reminds me of how I think so much. When I end up getting gold again that is going on my signature! (with all due credit of course)

Once I buy enough knives to figure out what steel, lock, ergos and aesthetics I like I'll just sell them off and get a custom that's exactly what I want. Yeah, that's exactly what's going to happen.

With the dollar being continually devalued by the Feds, a good knife represents real value. And, I like good quality stuff.
