Knife Fighting Guide

In serious environments like www.selfdefenseforums.com Hocks stuff is looked at with much scrutiny, and much reservation.
The best two books I can suggest you get at Put 'Em Down Take 'Em Out, by Don Pentecost, and Knife Fighting a Practical Guide by Michael Janich.
The first one is a VERY realistic approach to knife fighting, and how it actually happens - the second is more expanded, and well rounded ins ome other ways, worth having them both. Neither are perfect, both dismiss reverse grip too much, but they are a sgood as is in print now.
Beyond that, check out www.donrearic.com, www.shivworks.com and the previously mentioned www.selfdefenseforums.com for good online knife and self defense info - you cant get better.

Is that to say that the folks at SDF are the be all, end all, when it comes to self defense. I've trained in Hock's systems for a while and I find them very useful and I have enough experience to back up that claim. I've heard negative comments made about Pentecost's book, but I personally won't knock it because I haven't read it.

I have a high level of respect for folks like Don Rearic, SouthNarc and some other folks at SDF, but just because a person posts over there does not make them better informed than me, or others that post elsewhere.

Right you are Siga.
I actually screwed up what I intended to say - I meant to add my own qualifier on the end, and somewhere between getting ahead of myself and being tired, that got lost.
What I was going to say was something to the effect of, what little of Hocks stuff I've run across (magazine articles mostly) hasnt been that bad - my only thing, from an outsiders POV is that it would seem to be a true system in and of its-self, like a martial art, that would take such a level of studying as you've put into Hocks programs. So if one was just looking for a "quick and dirty" introduction to things, check these out:
Sorry really, I didnt mean to make that look like as much of a dis as it did, towards you or hocks stuff. Till I read this thread just now, I would have told you my original post included the above. My bad.

Anyway, thanks for calling me on talking out my arse.

Don't worry about it man. Yes, Hock's stuff is sort of like a streamlined martial art, rather than quick and dirty combatives. That's what I like about it, and that also the same reason others don't like it.

Yeah, I've heard people knock Hock's stuff and say that they favor so-and-so's system. What many people seem to forget is that there's no such thing as the best martial art/fighting sytem. It all comes down to the individuals preference, skill level, fitness level, and willingness to learn.
