I recently took a week of vacation with my family to the Captiva, Florida area (Sanibel Island, to be more precise) to get away from the stress and cold weather of Ohio in mid-February. On my 1200-mile drive I came across some interesting finds with the help of a friend!
One of my close friends lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and frequents the garage sales, estate auctions, and other sell-offs in the nicer suburbs around the area (like Dunwoody, for example) and usually finds great deals. He himself is a firearms man, but keeps an eye out for edged tools for me.
He was at a garage sale and found several knives---a Spyderco Massad Ayoob, a Lum Chinese (lime green handles and VG10), and a titanium-handled Lum Tanto folder. The lady running the show obviously didn't realize what she had; she was selling all the pocket knives for thirty dollars! My buddy picked them up for me, so I got all three of those classic models for just under a hundred dollars!
That was my main find, although I did find many nice Case knives on display at a grocery store on Sanibel---good prices were a shock, as the cost of living seems to be much higher in Florida than Ohio. I got a Case Medium Stockman in Yellow Synthetic/CV for just over twenty dollars. All in all, it was a great trip with great company, and with great deals for knives too!
I just wanted to share my finds...keep your eyes open at garage sales!
God bless.
