I am lookiing for a knife for the girlfriend, preferably in the 100$ range as I am not even sure she will carry it.

Thanks, John

Spyderco Native. It might not look good on the pictures, but it is the stuff any girl could appreciate.

What are your requirements? Show her some knives and ask her what she likes. Is it going to be a utility knife or an "Oh Sh*t!" knife? If it will be for the latter, has she taken any edged weapon training?

For us to answer properly, we need to know.

Show her some pics of knives and see if she thinks anything is cute. I have heard of many wives acquiring their husband's Benchmade Osborne 940s here! My GF carries a Spydie Lady Bug on her keychain. I think whe could graduate to a SOG Sculptura, but I'm not sure. Don't just buy a $100 knife hoping she'll carry it!

First rule of thumb that it took me YEARS to learn...don't surprise her with a knife...GET HER INPUT.

I learned this after buying her half a dozen CRKT's, Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaws, and the more I thought she would like them, the more she actually hated them. Then of course the one knife I never thought she'd care for (a Blackie Collins "Buddy System" she immediately commandeered and hasn't returned it after three years of daily carry on her keyring.

That having been said...my wifes VERY favorite folder that she refuses to carry most of the time cause she loves it and frets over it so much is a Benchmade 940

The folder that is TRULY her EDC is a steel handled Spyderco Delica. She hasn't left the house without it since I gave it to her a few months ago.

Another one of her favorite knives is an MOD Scorpion neck knife that she immediately confiscated on site late December.

She also got a Benchmade 335 "Big Spender" for Christmas that she carries around her office alot (Political Correctness factor and all)

good luck to ya!

My wife was never really interested in knives untill i brought home a swiss army knife with all the gagets soon as she got her eyes on those little scissors and tweezers in her bag it went i haven't seen it since

Yup, sounds like a fair trade :D

Hey, it's an oldie but a goodie ;)

MOD ladyhawk. A bit more than you are looking to spend and may not be as utility oriented as you are looking for, but a nice sized knife that seems like many ladies (as well as many guys) like.

When people here talk about the knives their female friends really like a few seem to keep coming up:

Emerson La Griffe
Spyderco Mouse
Benchmade 940

I'd say that the next most common is "anything else made by Spyderco". A lot of women, including my wife, seem to like them more than other brands.

LOL Robert! :D

I gave a lady friend of mine a Spyderco Cricket plain edge for Christmas, she loves it. Unique shape and doesn't look like a typical folding knife per se, easy to open, easy to close. And not too hard on your wallet either!

My wife carries a cold steel el lobo and a kershaw boa (multi colored handle). She really wants me to find her something with a jeweled titanium purple handle and a hawkbill blade. We looked at something like that at a local knife store and passed on it. Went back later to pick it up and it was gone!

I agree though, definitely ask her what she likes. If you get her something WE suggest or something YOU like, she might not like it too much. Just show her lots of pics and see what captures her attention.

My 20 year old daughter reeally likes the knife I bought for her as a graduation gift for her to take when she went off to college.

Well over ten bills, but it's an edc:

A custom titanium neck knife by maker Warren Thomas. Pink Japanese style cord-wrap handle. A carbon fiber/ti laminated tanto blade with a tungsten carbide impregnated edge, topped off with a nice carbon fiber neck sheath.

My GF loves her leatherman micra she also wants a leatherman Juice, check out the "knife for wife" thread a while back.

I am considering getting mine a kershaw Vapor 3in, polish the blade and pocket clip, and find somesort of paint that wont scratch off the handle

good luck

btw she also loves my blue BM 940

My ex-girlfriend carries a small tanto M-16 that I gave her. She also really like the BM 940 I had at the time. I think you should get her a 940 :D .

Check out the little mini-aikuchi neckers from R.W. Clark.

I just received mine and it is truly a little gem. My wife loves it. She can either hang it from the supplied cord or just throw it her purse as it is very compact. You can dress them up really nice, I got mine with maroon rayskin under the black silk wrap and added a couple of silver dragon menuki's. Blade is ground very thin and this knife is a little pocket razor. Highly recommended.

Blademan, thats great to hear. I can't wait for mine with natural rayskin and red wrap to be done.

I have to agree with RWS here...a knife is a very personal decision, and if you just surprise her with one you run a good chance of her not liking it. Get her involved and you will get much better results. You can't force it on her, so if she's really against the idea, you'll be wasting your money. My boyfriend knows I have very particular tastes in knives, and I doubt he would try to surprise me with one. He has gotten me a Wenger SAK recently, which is great for my desk at work. But I can't see him dropping some serious change on anything because of the risk of my not liking his choice. He bought me a SOG Seal Pup last summer, but he knew that I liked it already. That's a totally different scenario.

Runs With Scissors is right on. Get her input. Not only is style and color important but so is the fit in her hand.

My wife surprised me by selecting a Cold Steel push dagger as her purse knife and a CRKT Claw as her EDC. I never would have selected these for her on my own. Now that I know what she prefers I got her a MOD Lady Hawk which she really likes.

As for all the recommendations for the BM 940, I love mine but my wife thinks it's ugly.
