The bad guy in Tomb Raider has a curious looking knife. It's an automatic, the kind where the blade is switched in and out the handle by sliding a button. What makes it peculiar is the ring attached to one side of the guard.
Wich kind of knife is this? It's complete fantasy or does exist such a knife?

I was wondering about that myself. If it really exists, it's probably very expensive if not illegal. (unless you're in the Military, EMS, or a LEO)

There was some discussion about the knives in "Thomb Raider"
and as far as i remember the bad guys auto was a cheap
NATO OTF with a ring attached by film props.
Then Lara throw a Gerber Guardian into a chair,
but nobody seems to know anything about the persian style knife
Lara held in bed when she woke up in the night.

No kidding? I'd think for a major motion picture like Thoomb Rhaieder that selects stainless USP Matches (solid choice) they would at least pick a quality DA OTF like a Sandshark.

I'd ask over on the Automatic forum...

Oh yeah, unless the law prohibits autos then it's only illegal to transport them across state lines, no? Out here in Arizona they sell them in the malls.

The persian seems to be a period piece.
There are some other knives, but the bad guy automatic is definitely particular. Has anyone heared about knives with finger rings attached (other than knockleduster-knife hybrids) like the one in the movie?

These finger rings (on the back side of the grip)
were used at some spanisch and french knives to unlock folders.
I have seen pics of Navajas and early Laguioles with this.

They used to sell cheap $3 D/A OTF's in the malls here too, but they were the kind where you held it up to a piece of styrofoam and hit the trigger and the blade wouldn't go through it. Anyway, they do sell standard automatic knives, but Benchmade will not sell or allow their automatic knives to be sold to anyone without a military I.D. From what I understand, in SC it's not illegal to have automatic knives, but it is to carry them.
