I'm about to get a knife with a 3in. blade to carry around with me. It is a tactical folder. Do tacs fall under switchblades?

As a general rule, no.

Basically, the law distinguishes legal from illegal knives. If it's under 5 1/2 inches and isn't sharpened on two sides and the blade doesn't open toooooo easily if you flick it (gravity knives are a no-no) you should be ok. Open v. concealed does not matter. Fixed v. Folder doesn't matter...although Bowie knives (whatever that means) can't be carried.

I think the cops have better things to do than bother you...like arresting people for eating at Sonic. :D

The only city I'm aware of that differs from state law is San Antonio...where locking knives are illegal. Some of the semi-liberal places up near Dallas may have some stupid laws...not sure.

It's Houston. We all carry guns. Nobody cares.

Remember...I'm not a lawyer...but I carry several knives on me nearly everywhere. And they are more like 4 inches. No worries.

Wow. Thanks for the heads-up. Just moved to Houston, but had no clue San Antonio had such a silly local law. Sheesh.

Problem is, I'll have to think hard about whether I even HAVE any knives suitable for daily carry that don't lock for a trip to lovely San Antone. Maybe a big Swiss Army Knife... still thinking...

Are fixed blades are a no-no in San Antonio??
