Hi,

I am looking for a good general purpose "outdoor knife". I have been doing alot of hiking and mountain bike riding lately in the woods and would like a larger sized knife to handle a number of different activities. I would like to use it for camping this summer also. I have been looking at getting a Busse but I am not sure which one would suite my needs best. Money is not a huge issue, but I would like to keep it under $300.00. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

shane

Let me suggest you do not go mtn biking with a busse. If you crash it will be most unpleasant.

Benchmade AFCK a all around good multipurpose knife.

RTDT has a point. Falling off a mountain bike with a Busse could be less than good for your health, lol :)

However under $300 and sized well for a mountain biker would be the Busse Steel Heart. I do a fair amount of biking as well. Usually I don't take a knife with me, however I don't imagine the Steel Heart would be a burdon at all. The Battle Mistress sitting at 15" overall might be a little too big for your needs.

Shane,

What all will you expect to use it for? This will help more.

As DN said, the Mistress will be too big, maybe even the Steel Heart may be also. Perhaps the Natural Outlay will fit your needs.

Go to the Busse site and read some of the specs at www.bussecombat.com

Good luck.

Chris-

If money is not the issue, then another vote for Busse. Suggest either a Natural Outlaw, or finding one of the now-discontinued Badger Attack.

Another vote for Busse. I would go with either the Satin Jack, Natural Outlaw, or Steel Heart.

Falling off your bike in general is not too pleasant....but if you fell wrong on a fixed blade it wouldn't help any :D

Slip a Benchmade 710 in your seat pack, and you'll never know it's there until you need it. It'll handle almost any job on the trail.

Have you considered the Camillus CUDA Maxx? It is small and light enough not to get in your way, but it unfolds into a very serious 5-1/2" Bowie that makes no concessions to any fixed blade. And the long grip allows it to handle like an even larger knife in terms of balance and leverage. This seems like the perfect outdoor knife for folks who need to keep an eye on the size and weight of their equipment.

From what I have read about Busse, it probably wouldn't do wonders for your bike either :)

You could get a BK&T Campanion for around $65-$70. It should meet all your needs, and you could save a bundle of cash.
