Hi this is DaQo'tah

Just this moment I have sat down to start reading the new book out now by Ed Fowler...KNIFE TALK II

I have not yet read a full section of the book as I write this to you,,,but from what I have read so far,,,it's very clear to me that I have been doing my grinding all wrong,,,,,I was not even close,,,,,Now I have ended up with a finished product that was about what I was aiming for,,,,but now I can see clearly this was all by accident,,,,

back to reading,,,,I will post more here if I notice other places where I have been messing up

I must get hold of this book. I bet it hasn't arrived in Malaysian bookstores yet.

The first book was pretty good.

I bought my copy of KNIFE TALK II while I was at the Blade Show and Ed was kind enough to write a nice little note in the front for me. THANKS ED!!

I didn't know there was a wrong way to grind. Only a different way.
The way I see it if the end result is what you wanted then you are doing it right.

Belstain's right -- if the end result is what you want, then you're grinding right.

on page 108 of KNIFE TALK II, I note that Ed Fowler talks about establishing "plunge grinds"...this is the first I have heard of this...

I have been looking at His knive all this time, and never understood how he got the demarcation between sharpened blade, and flat ricasso ares,,,

I have been haveing a very hard time, I was just working the convex shape with the 30 grit belts,,,working and working,,,untill I had basically something that look like his knives, yet didnt have a "Plunge"...I have more of a ...er....."slide" area?

My slide area is what I end up with as the sharp cutting edge widens out over the length of about 1/4 inch to become the ricasso.

and on the right hand side of page 108 I see what my knife was suppose to look like,,,,Now I understand,,,and I see the value in the instructions found on page 107 under the photo on the left. I am to use the Rubber drive wheel to make the "Plunge grinds"....

(Up until this moment, I have not used my rubber drive wheel for anything...sorta seemed to be useless to my knife making,,,But now,,,,I got something for it to do!
