Usually you don't catch the thieves but this story has a good ending so I thought I would share it with you all...

I attended the FLEOA 2010 conference in Vegas last year. Benchmade had made a special run of the Griptilian to sell to the attendees. They had placed them under their booth and were going to sell them the next day.

A couple of the the hotel workers noticed the box and made off with a couple of the knives. They tried to re-arrange the box so it looked like nothing had been taken, but I guess the Benchmade rep could tell.

Unfortunately for the thieves, another vendor was selling portable surveillance equipment near the Benchmade booth. It was some equipment that you could set up and monitor with an IPOD. He caught and recorded the thieves stealing the knives.

I love it when thieves get caught. And lucky for me, I got on of the knives they stole.

I hope they upped the charges to grand theft because of the limited edition value of the knives!

Glad to see your stuff is back. Those thieves should consider themselves lucky because stolen blades tend to bite more

It was pretty interesting. If you're not a member of FLEOA I wouldn't bother. I'm not even sure you can attend unless you are a member.

I know most people had a good time.

Sounds like the best of a bad situation. Hope they learned their lesson. Nice lookin' blade. I've been resisting the urge for a grip for a while now.

God bless,
Adam

Stealing stuff isn't exactly the hallmark of the intelligent person, but, my oh my, the venue where they chose to steal. Priceless. :D

Those guys selling the surveillance equipment were laughing all the way to the bank:D

It was pretty cool to see those jokers get nabbed!

Well, you have to admit, it is a once in a lifetime sales opportunity. Then word of mouth takes over from there. That company received a better return just setting the equipment up and catching them than they would have probably received from an ad in a trade magazine or something. :D

Should have done like some middle eastern countries. Cut off one of the thieves fingers. With the knife they stole.

Glad they got you your knife back. It is extremely rare to be able to recover stolen goods.
