I Have done several searches and can't seem to find any current info on carry of a pocket knife aboard cruise ships. They claim metal detector use of guests and x-ray of all bags. "No fire arms or weapons are permitted" per one of the cruise lines. What if any are allowed?

I believe your question (under the same title) was answered in the General forum. If you want to get the definitive answer call your cruise line. I believe the experiences we outlined pretty much said it.

If you take it in cary-on and are searched they might take it and return it at disembarkation.
If it is in checked baggage: the same.
You might sneak one on-board but it may be taken after a shore excursion when you will be wanded upon reboarding.
Just like the airlines except with water.

I cruise a lot. My family typically cruises 2-3 times a year. I have often brought my little Kershaw assisted opener with me. Even off to ports where I felt a little nervous.

I am also a scuba diver and I have brought my titanium blades along with my diving gear on and off of different ships. Haven't been stopped once.

As for the metal detectors, I go through them all the time with both mentioned knives and not a problem yet. Worse that can happen is the ship takes away your knives and gives them back to you at the end of the cruise.
