Knockout pocket clip?

So my knock out from Kershawguy showed up a few days ago, and I have been playing with it on and off since then. I like the knife shape, heft and feel, but I absolutely hate the low rider clip it uses. With it fully seated in my pocket, I have to use two hands to get to, which defeats the purpose of the clip in my mind. Is there a retrofit clip along the lines of something like a Leek has that can be used?

I've tried to work with it for a week or more, and flip the clip to opposite ends of the knife, with no real improvement.

Nice knife, other than that gripe.

I have the same problem with the Echelon (looks to be the same clip). I have not come up with a solution yet. I have a blank un-bent Ti pocket clip that I am going to try to make a better one out of it. The problem as I see it is that the screws holding it to the knife protrude too much and make the distance between the clip and the screws so small that you cannot really use that extra depth. Is that what you dislike about it? I do not mind it too much to use the screws as the stop on my jeans which means it does not ride as low as possible. This knife has torn up my jeans real fast which has made it easier to pull out and put away. I love Kershaw, but I do not think I have found a clip they make to be good enough to not leave me looking to replace it or make my own. They are moving in the right direction though. Most of their problems with clips imo is that the clip slants from the pinch point to the fastening point, whereas this clip is up and straight across after the pinch point. That helps in retrieving it in my experiences, plus I like to slide my key ring in that nice gap that the slanted clips do not have.

I decided to play with the torch and some vice grips tonight. It took a little bit of experimentation to get the "bite" right on the pocket, but I think this is a lot more functional, at least for me:

The only thing that bugs me a little bit are the tooth marks in the metal of the clip, but for a user knife it doesn't matter. I didn't have any smooth jaw pliers to do the bending when it was hot. I may take it back off, sand out the tooth marks, heat it back up and oil quench it uniform the color again.

The solution could have been more simple. Are there screws available anywhere that do not have a rounded top? Possibly a flat top. That could increase the space between the screw and clip allowing ease of use when placing the knife in your pocket.

Just an idea...

Maybe I am missing something, but how would different screws change the depth at which the knife rides in your pocket? The way in which I realigned the clip allow approximate 3/4" of the scale to protrude above the top of my pocket...now there is actually something to grab when I need my knife.

My response was directed at nccole. But I confused even myself by somehow thinking you typed his issue about the screws. Sorry. If low riding is your issue, then your fix is fine.

Those round screws would be the best as it would allow a smooth transition. You cannot really get a lower head screw at that small of a size.

Yeah, I thought he was having the same problem as me, guess not. I want my knife to ride low, and have no complaint of having nothing to grab onto. I just stick my thumb in my pocket behind the handle against my leg and my index finger on the very end of the clip un-springing it and no matter how deep it is I can retrieve it. I will say however that the Echelon clip is sprung really tight. Just taking it off and un-bending it a little might have made it easier to retrieve, but as long as you are happy with it that is all that matters.

To be honest I don't know what the thing is with everybody wanting "low ride" clips all of a sudden? I don't like them on either my Knockout or Piston. I clip the knife in my waistband and it makes it hard to get ahold of with these clips. My Blur is much easier to get ahold of.

For the purposes of better concealment. Low rider clips bring less attention. The need to be able to draw you blade really quick is not necessary in 99.9% of most situations. Although, I can still draw my knockout very quick. It's more about technique than anything.

The low rider clip also keeps the knife deep in you pocket with less risk of being bumped out by a branch or brush when hiking (had a couple come out that way).

Eventually it all comes down to preference.

I have some knives that ride so high that when I bend over it digs into my waist/hips. Plus, I think it looks goofy with too much knife just hanging out of my pocket. I do not worry about people knowing I have knife necessarily, but just prefer to keep it all in my pocket.
