Know of any good hobo tool sets?

Hey guys. I was recently eating out a small time joint when it suddenly hit me that we, as a society, use up a lot of disposable forks, spoons, knives, and chopsticks. Then I got to thinking about the Ka-Bar Hobo, which is simply a fork, spoon, and knife, all wrapped up in a neat little package, ready for use.

However, I wanted to get some opinions and perhaps, even some suggestions on some other hobo tool sets to look into. I was thinking of simply picking up the Ka-Bar Hobo, but it'd be nice to have a tool that could come apart for using multiple tools at the same time (not to say that I wouldn't already have another knife on me).

More in response to your last idea than the hobo-tool, but I'm fond of the Light My Fire sporks. It's a piece of plastic with a fork (with one mildly serrated tine) on one end and a spoon on the other. I keep one in my briefcase, and they're cheap enough to have several of. That combined with a decent folder and a multitool or SAK and I think you're set.
One thing I like about them better than an all in one Hobo-tool (besides compactness and such) is that they're extremely easy to clean.

BTW Made in Sweden
Edit: It looks like they have a titanium one now too, that's really cool.

The LMF sporks are great! I have 5 of them 3 regulare plastic ones a Serving one and a Titanium one. They get used a bunch around my apartment.

Somewhere I have a set of utinsels that snap together, used them a ton on campouts. They are also really nice.

Case makes (or at least made) a very nice hobo with knife, fork and spoon. It is reasonably compact, and the three utensils seperate for individual use. Mine is a model 6354 in amber bone.

I have the snowpeak Ti spork that I use at home, and a brunton folding one that lives with an opinel in my backpack. I like that the wire handle on the brunton lets you easily add a long stick. although the tines are a little too obtuse for my liking, I like the snowpeak ones a bit better.

I actually have a old folding BSA (Boy Scouts) Fork. Made out of stainless and manufactured sometime in the late 60s / early 70s. I have the full set of spoon, knife, fork, plate/pan, and canteen and even after so many years it still takes care of me.

They pop up on ebay now and then (http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-BOY-/-G...temQQimsxq20090607?IMSfp=TL090607222003r21436) and are quite handy.

When all else fails I have a LMF and a BSA full folding set (knife, fork, spoon all in one folder)

+1 on the LMF Spork. I use mine with my pocket knife for lunches at work, everything from steak to casseroles. Hasn't bent or broke.

I have been wanting to try Guyot designs Mealgear for a while, they are a little bigger, but I think they would be really useful.

Guess I'll have to look into this LMF Spork thingy. I wonder if I should invest a little extra for that titanium version...

Thanks a lot, guys. Looks like it's time to make a trip to REI.
Oh wait, it's not open yet. Dang it.

So worth the extra for the titanium, I've put mine through a beating and a half and its still going strong, I doubt the regular version would have lasted through the stuff I've done with it so far.

Also pickup some firesteel while your at it.

Yeah, been meaning to pick up that firesteel as well. I got some generic one that has the magnesium on one side and the ferrous iron for sparking on the other. It's made a couple fires, but it takes a bit of effort and time to get a fire going.

I was thinking of going with the titanium version simply for the ease of cleaning. Never really been a fan of plastic.

The titanium spork is actually my usual utensil. It cleans off very nicely. There are no decorative ridges to catch food or grease.

There's a stubby version, which I think is unnecessary. The original is compact enough and almost unnoticeably lightweight. There's also a folding version, also unnecessary.

ThinkGeek.com has a Star Trek imprint on theirs. :)

Cool, I didn't know the Case would seperate.:thumbup:

I agree, :cool::thumbup:

Thanks for posting the pictures of one of these and the images of how these work/are put together.

I've had my eye on these for some time now and I like what I see.

Thanks, yablanowitz. :)

Those are all very nice, but I would prefer something a little more like this. ;):D:cool:

I can hear the screams already
Lots of nice suggestions in this thread already. I went and picked up a red LMF Spork cause they didn't seem to have any of the titanium ones around. They had some other titanium sporks, but they were the typical spork with spoon and fork merged into one. Not a very good spoon, nor a very good fork. I passed. If this spork passed my uses, I might invest a bit more in the titanium one.

Yes! Go with the titanium! I polished mine. :D My absolute favorite eating utensil of all time! Also pick up a plastic one, though. Gotta' have both. ;)
