I want to buy a Kopa but do not care for the present handle materials. I've heard that Spyderco will be continuing this model with different handle materials.

Does anybody know what they'll be, and when they'll be offered?

The 2006 catalog shows "Gold Pearl" and "Turquoise" as the next handle inlay materials.

PS - I have the Cocobolo, and IMO the pictures (as beautiful as they are) don't do the knife justice. It's my favorite so far. You won't be dissappointed! And I think both the Tiger and Apple Coral knives are beautiful too. I'd give one of those three a try -- you can't go wrong. :)

Good luck!

DRM,
I would guess that even some of the future materials have not been decided on yet. Since they have already had cocobolo, black micarta, evrina, tiger coral, apple coral and soon to be gold lip pearl and turquiose what would you like to see? I would love to see another wood like spalted(sp) maple or olive. Then there is always the stones, blue denim, lapis, etc.
I think that the kopa is a great platform for all these variations. Plus if you don't like any of the choices you could possibly get one customized just for (like my patriotic one :D )

My understanding is that mother of pearl, coral and stones are relatively fragile. The black and white, respectively, of micarta and ervina simply aren't appealing to me.

Likewise, I was hoping for some additional wood choices. Some colorful choices of micarta, or almite, would be nice too see also.

Coral is fragile, as is pearl, but Turquoise is pretty durable. I don't think you need to worry about any of the handles breaking, unless you drop the knife...

Thanks for the info, and eventually I will drop this knife!
