Hi. Is BM planning to release a reasonably priced Kriss bali anytime soon? I LOVE the 49, and would love to have one, but there are many things in this world I want but can't have! I thought I had heard that they are going to be doing a regular production model?

Thanks
Strati

The model 49 is a limited number issued production model. It's also highly labor intensive, which may be the reason for the high price. As for it appearing on a set of satin finished T1 handles, I doubt it'll be anytime soon. BM has plans for the 49's that extends through most of this year, with the 49-02 to be released right after the completion of the 49-01's (which should be soon). Maybe after all the 49-0x's would we see a regular 49. :(

Thanks for the reply! Of course the price of the 49 is completely justified by the intense labor and quality that goes into such a beautiful knife! :) I just don't want to pay that much for something I'd feel too guilty to use; I'd just keep it as a display piece. :D I'd prefer a less-expensive BM, like the 42 but with a Kriss blade. Oh well...only time will tell!

thanks...

Welcome DrJones.., and yeah hang in there and you amy be suprised. The intial 49's have served as a major Commercial for Benchmade..., and even though the price seems steep.., what Tony menitoned is SOOOOOO true. An awful lot of R&D.., and handwork went into this first attempt at putting a quality Kris blade back out there, so with some patience and a Covert-Bali-Bank-Account , the Lazer-Bat-Blade of you dreams may be not so far off hopefully!!

Come on back and chat.., we're fun!

The Kris is less of a utility blade and much more a collector's item. As a result, demand for them isn't a great. So, it's unlikely that BM is going to take 'em into mass-production. Keep in mind, also, that the kris is quite a complicated blade to make. While BM is making them by machine, they still take a lot more machine time. Furthermore, sharpening and polishing is very demanding. They'll always be significantly more expensive than simplier profiles.

Hi and thanks again all for your posts. I just want to clarify one thing: I'm NOT at all complaining about the price of the BM49. It is obviously worth it! I do NOT have a problem paying for things of quality that I want. I have developed quite a Versace habit, and you may know that his clothes are far from inexpensive! However, I'm 21 and don't WANT to pay $600 for a knife; I don't have the cash to throw around. Maybe later when my car is paid off, I will!:D
