Kydex sheath problem!

Just got my new Fallkniven S1!
It’s just the kind of knife I was looking for. Good materials, nice shape and, above all, not too large and not too small: the right size for my needs.
But I’m quite disappointed with the sheath. It is a kydex one, it’s sturdy and holds the knife firmly also without using the handle strap, so firmly… that you need two hands to take out the blade, … too firmly, IMHO!!!
There’s a handle strap, why to make the knife stuck that way?
That’s not the first time I find such kind of problem, and I’d like to know what’s your opinion about that!

Hi Bear....

With webbing dropper type sheaths you sometimes have this problem, the webbing folds over as you draw the knife up. You may want to try a leg strap to hold the sheath down as you draw.

The problem with making it loose enough to draw with one hand is that its only secured by the strap.

I make aftermarket sheaths for the full line of Fallknivens and I use a ridgid belt loop so this doesn't happen. Personally if I was to use the factory sheath I would want a little more security on the knife than just the strap.

Try a leg thong and if that doesn't fit your needs, feel free to drop me a note..

Bear...

I have a fallkniven kydex sheath for my second F1 and the holding-tension is pretty darn good for my preferences. It can be easily unsheathed 1-handed, and still holds the knife snug enough for me. I think you just got unlucky with your S1 sheath. You might want to use a hair dryer or heat gun on the sheath to see if you can loosen it. Be careful though. You can easily mess the sheath up. If you want a guaranteed GREAT concealex sheath for your S1, talk to Normark.

From my experience, the quality of kydex sheaths you get with your knives is a crap-shoot. I am disatisfied with 50-75% of the kydex/concealex sheaths I receive from production companies AND custom makers. You can get 2 of the same model knife & kydex sheath from the same company, and you might end up with 1 good one or both sheaths being horrible. You would think custom makers who put so much effort into their knives would take the time to make at least a decent sheath. But among customs I have, only 2 makers have made great sheaths worthy of their custom work. A few makers, while having made good quality knives, made some of THE WORST kydex/concealex sheaths I've ever had to deal with.

One method of drawing from a kydex sheath is to grip the handle of the knife, and press your thumb against the sheath. This draw can be done in one quick motion and should be enough to draw from any kydex type sheath that "locks" your blade into place.
