kydex sheath

I apologize if this has been posted before. I did a search and didn't turn up the answer I am looking for.
How long will the kydex sheath last? 5 years? Ten years? Until the end of the world? I just want to know how they ware and whether I should be looking for any warning signs. Having the sheath fail in an emergency or in the middle of a crowded room wouldn't be good. Pocket hobbits tend to scare people a little too much. Best kept hidden.
Anyone had their sheath long enough to comment?

They'll last long enough- until you get fed up with 'em marking up your blades all the time and pitch it out!

Seriously though, I'm not sure, but I'd imagine a good long time.

If by "failure" you are talking about failure to retain, I think you'll start to notice gradual degradation of retention well before you have a failure. If the failure you are talking about is structural failure/cracking, etc., I'm pretty sure that the retention is going to be so far gone that you're going to want to replace the sheath well before it structurally fails.

I have kydex/concealex sheaths that are a couple of years old that have not failed structurally. Retention-wise, one of them has lost enough tension that I wouldn't trust is more than 60 deg from vertically upright. BUT, that particular knife has had some minor alterations of the handle, and I think that is primarily responsible for the tension decreasing.
