kydex sheaths for howling rat?

I'd buy one if someone is going to make them.
I have a tough time getting mine back into its sheath and its hard to put it away too.

I think Eric and Dave are working on something for the Swamp Rat line. I seem to recall a post in a thread somewhere- here, bladeforums, Busse Combat. (It's so hard to remember!)

Give them a call- maybe something's ready by now. Don't know the phone number but here is their websites.

Thanks Eric -- actually this one is one I made about 3 years ago for a small stag hunter, but it fits the Howler pretty well. This is the only sheath I've ever made using lacings, prefer hand stitching these days. I slipped the HR it just for an idea of what style to make for the HR, and maybe then one for the CT. This one works, but I'll probably go with a flat sheath rather than the pouch. And yes, it will be in black. I picked up a tip over on the "Outpost" several months ago about homemade dyes, and I really like the black dye I make. It actually comes out a deep slate gray, and it should look great with the muted black of the Resiprene. Will post a scan when finished.

Mike,

I agree with Eric, that looks great!:D

Is it setup for vert., horz. or canted carry?

Looking forward to seeing the new "black" one when you finish it.

Thanks Drew -- it's a vertical setup, the top of the sheath folds down to form the belt loop. Not a hi-rider, but high enough to let me sit in the Jeep comfortably. I've made sheaths for horizontal carry, but prefer that style for blades 3" or less. Guess I'd better get to work on the black one for the Howler.
BTW, saw your locator info in Egan Mn -- I'm a native Duluth boy and spent one year at Roseville High, but settled in the Colorado mountains when I retired from the Navy. Gotta get back there to see some family one of these days.
Mike:)

Nice sheath, MtMike.
My first impression of my knife was "nice knife, oversized sheath", but in all fairness I was comparing it other knives that rode higher on my belt. I haven't carried this one enough in its original sheath to say much more than that. I like the weight, balance and size of the knife though. I want to take it for a walk in the woods this weekend and see how I like the sheath after that.

Jim -- I'm in awe, a knife guy with common sense !! Actually try it out under expected use conditions before making a decision?? WOW!!
:D Actually I try not to criticize the kydex/concealex carriers, the stuff is great for some knives and some uses. The Rat Family probably fits that category. But I don't understand putting nice blades with polished or satin finishes in kydex -- plenty has been written on these Forums on the subject. I just prefer good old fashioned hide. :) Confession: I have considered getting a kydex rig for my CT.
Mike

MtMike, hide for me too please......can not beat it. I do agree that kydex fits the bill when it comes to rats though.....still, brown hide with white stitch just turns my crank!;)

Brown and white, what's this?

If it's gonna be leather its gotta be black all the way :D:D

Black!? Now cmon man, brown bleeeennndddsssss in with the swamp...black is for covert ops and goes with balaclavas!:D

Still, I could definately live with black, if no choice...I just like the design of that sheath, very snug as a bug and looks to boot.

I made these two sheaths for another Joe heading off towards the sound of guns. One for his father and the second for him a few (1-2) months ago, he told me they were Busse's but they had no marks or stamps, I did not see anything again like them until here. I took a few pic's prior to the both of them shiping off.(the guy and his knife). Take care. Dean

Eric, thank you, I have been doing Kydex for a bit over 5 years now here at the Ft Bragg area, started as a hobbie for some jumpable sheaths for myself and some other guys and grew from there.
Take care. Dean

Eric,

You had better dig up the dirt on the knife pictured above. It has Swamp Rat style in the handle and choil, but those aren't familiar lines on the blade. What's up with that? Now you are gonna have us looking for those in PVC tubes too.:D

John

I thought the same Eric but was reluctant to say anything.

It actually looks like the american tantonised peice of work the ratman is holdin onto....

2 questions:

1. Could this be a proto?;)
2. WHEN THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO BE READY?

:D
