I have a Lansky kit and I think it works great. But it seems that my coarse stone has lost its grit...I don't think I wore down the stone rather I think steel shavings and oil have gunked up the pores which decreases the stones sharpening ability. Are there any suggestions on how to clean the stone so that it can be a coarse stone again?

When I had a Lansky stone set I used to spray the stones with Gumout® carb cleaner from time to time. Try not to get it on the plastic top part though. Works great...

Take some fine sand and rub it on a pice of flat glass. That will striten it and ristore the bite. You can do beter with their XC diamond first and then follow with the stone.
