I am not usually one for aesthetics, but that is quite striking. One question on function, can you readily get a functional grip on the upper part of the haft?

Well thanks for the complement Cliff,

The balance point is right at the lonesome tack on the upper middle of the haft. The grip feels quite secure anywhere on the haft. It does feel like grabbing firm skin if that makes sense. The pitch is not tacky , yet almost like mountain man neoprene, for a lack of a better description. I could imagine in a survival situation, it would be an option to warm it in a fire and pour smooth sand over it to inhance it even more. I absolutely love the earthy feel.
