Can anyone explain what this means? I have seven points ? Is that good or bad? Who gives these points?

Anyone can give you points.

Basically, it gives others the capability to "rate" the comments that you've made in a particular thread.

As far as it being good or bad. . . .that's a subjective call.

In theory, if you have a "green" light (the little green box in the upper right corner). . .it's a good thing. If you have a "red" dot. . .a number of people don't care for your contributions. . .hence, not a good thing.

:)

It's an atta boy for good replies, or posts, I don't put much stock in the system, but some people do.

To add to someones rep click on the scales on the right top header of their post.

Hey Gig you build my rep up and I'll build yours up, on second thought do you really care what I think of you, I know I don't. :D

Good, mine says that I have not been rated yet, I was starting to think that I was posting "off the grid"

Moving to the Service & Support forum ...

Maybe people are starting to get interested. There are two recent threads there already (and of course there's info in the FAQ).

CA,
I see this as a bit more than a popularity contest now(former post 2 u on another similar thread) and do see its usefulness and potential to identify the "good, bad and the ugly",, however, it may have one drawback,, of being abused,, if some 'clicks' formed a posse to go after some certain folks..... If that makes any sense?.. Food 4 thought in any event?

Thanks,

Anthony

When Spark announced the new feature he promised abuse is not going to be tolerated. So far the complaints I've seen have all boiled down to something like "one guy gave one of my posts a bad rating and I'm all mad about it" -- but if someone really does abuse the feature sometime we moderators can see who is doing it and take appropriate action.

Other websites have been using ratings and it seems to work well for them....

I have found the Mod's here second to none, and I kinda figured you all were all over it, but since the system is brand new to me I figured just to mention it.. Thanks for your reply!

This is becomming like the feed back on EBay, next peoples sig lines will say, " If you liked this Post/Reply, don't forget to leave Positive Reputation Points, Thanks. "

Let's try an experiment.

I personally think it is a crap system.I hadn't paid much attention to it.I noticed mine says "I'm an unkown quantity" I have always contributed to discussions on these forums with little in the way of being abrasive.I checked my user CP and a couple jerks rated me badly with no comment and no courage to sign their names to the negative feedback. There should be an option to turn this off, because there are to many bozo's on the board apparantly.

What's the problem? That's why the system keeps you an "unknown quantity" until you get enough ratings to be meaningful -- so when only a couple of people have rated your posts (and they're both dorks) that doesn't give you a bad rating.

The idea is by the time you've accumulated enough ratings for the system to show, those two bad ratings will be overwhelmed by all the good ratings you'll have gotten. There are a few dorks everywhere; the system is designed with that in mind.

I'm not convinced ratings is a wonderful idea, but we haven't seen any evidence yet that it isn't....

The biggest problem I have with it is the fact anyone can leave the negative rating with no comment and signature.Just suppose all there is are dorks that rate my posts? Then a few more and it will be a red box and I'm a terrible member status. It's an unfair system were you can be unjustly slandered, while the back stabbers identities remain private. :(

I don't judge or rate anyone on anything other than the content of the post, if on the other hand some one has only 20 posts and everyones red flagging him, I might not give a look,(hell who am I kidding I'm gonna look at the posts anyway, I wonder what folding freaks rep was before he walked the plank?) :barf:

Bottom line if you have something worth saying people are gonna read it, and if you start developing a bad rep it's not because we all jumped on the band wagon, it's cause your an idiot(I don't mean you personally are an idiot, I was speaking in general), My Dad used to say,"Even an idiot, if left alone long enough will eventually show his stripes."(He had lot's of sayings like that).

I've seen a whole lot of "just suppose" and people getting all worked up about what might happen. I did a bit of supposing myself when I first heard about it, but I saw what the people who have actual experience with it on other websites were saying before I could get myself too worked up, so I decided to wait and see....

We've had it in operation for months now, and none of those horrible "just suppose" things have happened. I've been investigating complaints aggressively, and Tombstone's complaint is typical ...

Tombstone, I know you. I've been reading and enjoying your posts for a long time. If anybody were abusing the ratings feature I would deal with it. So I looked at your reputation. People have rated your posts 8 times -- not enough to show a reputation -- and two have left comments, one comment each. I guess it's the two comments you're complaining about -- well, think about it. In all the time you've been a regular at Bladeforums haven't you gotten negative comments in posts? Surely more than two.... The only differences are you don't know who made these comments, and nobody but you can see them. If you don't pay any attention to them nobody else is going to....

The moderators can see who rated your posts and who left comments, and if somebody abuses the system we can edit your reputation and we can ban the dorks. If it gets abused much we can turn off the whole feature. None of that has happened yet, though. If it happens let us know and we'll deal with it.
