Leather (?) sheath and my INFICoot

I recently received an INFICoot with a leather (?) sheath. The reason for the ? is that this stuff seems to be more like rubber then leather. It is some sort of oiled leather and is soft and stretchy. I tried to stretch it so it wouldn't grip the knife so tightly, but it just springs back to it's original form. Any suggestions other then another sheath?

TIA

You can easily wet mold it, it is just leather and we ship them somewhat tight so that the knives aren't loose and fall out.

Just wet the sheath thoroughly, insert the knife and then mold the sheath to the fit you want. Remove the knife, dry it and then let the sheath dry (it may take at least 24 hours)

There is a link I'll try to find on the Busse forum regarding this. If I find it I'll post it here.

I hope this helps

:D:D

Yea, what Eric said, and adding that indeed it is an oiled leather thus making it more flexible. The fibers of oiled leather tend to slip past each other easily, thats why they spring back so redily. The wet forming is the best way to adjust the fit, and it has the effect of washing some of the oil out of the leather making it a little stiffer. The resiprene handles do like to grab the leather but that too will smooth with time as the sheath breaks in.

hope this helps:D

Thanks. I'll try that. If it doesn't work, I'll send it to Dwayne for some Cowdex...I mean Moodex.

Heh heh, :D Y'know I am really beginning to like them both! Probably going to copyright them BOTH! bwahahahahahaha!:p
Well, I'm thinking.... owch ....those plastic lined sheaths can be one and the solid leather can be the other, Cowdex-leather, Moodex-plastic lined!:) What da y'all think??
could mean a piece of a future project, Andrew is exempt because of insider info:p lol!!
Now Eric.....wheres the Mini ???????????????????????

I did the wet mold thing and it worked very well. I soaked the sheath in warm water for a few hours. There was a bunch of slime on the bottom of the pan. Because of the high humidity at that time, it took 3 days to dry.

By the way, I left the INFIcoot in the sheath the entire time without any kind of protective coating on the edge. That had to be a hostile environment, but there isn't a hint of rust or staining on the bare INFI. Maybe some of the oil from the leather protected it, but I can't imagine doing the same thing with a plain carbon steel blade.
