So, we're storing our knives separate from our leather sheaths. But are there any precautions to be taken when storing sheaths? For example, should a dessicant be in the box?, What kind of box, i.e., wood, cardboard, is best?

There are some common things you must do to protect
any metal from damage so think along those lines.

As far as storing knives I've a good deal of success with this method....

Folders......Clean, lightly oil, wrap in Saran kitchen wrap and store in the
sheath in a cool dry place.

Fixed blades about the same.....Except I clean oil and store the blade in a cardboard
sheath made to fit the blade seperate from the sheath in a cool dry place. Don't
use box cardboard for this job use the kind found on writing tables and duct tape
it closed

One point for safety here ............If you use a shoe box to store them in a closet
make darn sure to fasten the lid on tight and MARK THE BOX as knives. You Don't
want this box to fall on you or your family if placed on the top self to keep the kids out
of it.
