I am looking for advice on wrapping leather with rawhidew for sheaths. These are a couple of samples of the ones I have done and even though they are are OK I feel I still have something to learn about the technique!
These are not the best of photos but they will open larger if you click the thumbnail.

Now here is my problem and question. In the past I basically have cut the componets for the leather sheath. Then I have cut out slightly larger the rawhide, wet and wrappeded around the leather and sewn it all together, wet. As the rawhide dries it shrinks and draws back and usually I end up with some bad areas showing at the edge of the sheath. Most of the time where I made a cut to allow the rawhide to pull in tight where the shape of the sheath changes. Thus both of the sheaths ended up with a whip stitch around the perimeter to hide that.
Question how do you build such a sheath with out that problem? Or what the heck am I doing wrong to put it another way?
There has got to be a better way to do it and not worry about hiding the edges of the rawhide. Sure could use some advice on this one before I start my next one!!!!!!!!
ANYONE?
