Please forgive this post if I'm in the wrong place.

I want to mod. my Leatherman Wave tool by making the file removable "in the field". I know where and how to cut the shank the way I want it once I get the tool disasembled.

But how do I get this tool disasembled (with intent to put it back together!) I don't think the fastener is Torx.. my torx drivers won't work on it. The pin in the center of the hole may be the problem.

Any advice.

Hey Naro...

They are Torx head,, but they are Tamper Proof Torx...

Taper proof Torx bits can be found, you'll have to look around for them though..

You can look here ,call or e-mail..I know they have them in their catalog..

Erm.... let's get this defined. Those fiddly little things are called 5-point anti-tamper torx screws. Leatherman is the only company I know of who use this type of screw. All other commonly available torx screws, anti-tamper or otherwise, are 6-point. That little pin in the centre is what defines it as an anti-tamper type.

Good luck trying to find 5-point torx drivers of any type. I've been looking and still can't find any. If you do, please post it. I'm sure there are many of us who would like to know.

Thanks guys (Steelwolf and Normark)

This may turn into a waste of my time. All I really want to do is to be able to use the diamond file sharpener on the Leatherman's own knife blade. In the field...emergency/survival situations.

I bet I just end up with a Sterling Systems sharpener(you can get it with a "diamond dust" strip)stuck in the Leatherman's pouch.
