Im new to the world of LED lights and need a little help. Im looking for a LED that will take the place of my 4D cell mag-lite.How would something like a lightwave 4000 work.
The light will be used during the upcoming deer season getting to and from my stand and more importantly searching for downed deer in the thick stuff which can take hours.
I like the extreme burn time of LEDs but do throw enough to meet my needs.

Thanks

check out the new inova X5 it is kinda like having 5 photon microlights.

You could always grab a Inova X5, Arclite LS, and those cool princeton tac lights and get a 2 battery surfire to back it up.

Right now custom is the way to go. Something with a Luxeon Star and a circuit will meet your needs. Soon LS's will be sold in manufactured lights. Arc has released theirs but they're being snapped up as soon as they hit this streets.

The Inova X5 will put out the light you need for navigation at 1/5 the weight of your 4D Mag. You might, however supplement with something that throws a much stronger beam than any maglite (like a Surefire) for the search requirement. If I had to have only one though, I'd get the X5...

I don't know for sure, but currently, there are no production LED lights that I know of that can throw light as far as an incandescent.

So, if you are worried about reach, LEDs are not the way to go YET.

But, LEDs are awesome for durability, color, and configuration.

You can get a good LED area light in much smaller packages than your Mag. As mentioned above, visit CandlePowerForums.com. Alot of guys with TONS of flashlight knowledge.

Aloha

you need to check out candlepowerforums, but you should also take a look at the surge, as a light that will shed a lot of light for a long time. of course you'd probably want a led light to go with it. if you want to carry it with you as edc you'll want to go with something with cr123s though.

The best light I own for crunching through the brush is a Petzl "Tikka" LED head lamp... throws great flood light for walking or tracking, It's a nice white light for spotting blood trails. It is so small and light you won't even know you have it on... best of all it's hands free... so you can carry your gun in one hand and your knife in the other...:D just kidding.

There are a number of good LED head lamps on the market check them out... This is one area where LED bulbs have an edge, their light, can run forever on a small battery, and can take the abuse of running into that tree when you walk into it while following that blood trail...:D

just MHO...

I would buy an Inova X5 Tactical or an Opalec NewBeam LED Module for your Mini Maglite and purchase a Nite Ize Headband.

Your can buy the Nite Ize headband and mini Maglite at Walmart. The Inova X5 and Opalec NewBeam are available at PocketLights.com.
