I recently picked up a lightly used Reeves double bit with an ash handle. I immediately noticed that the head was a little loose when I took it out of the box. I contacted Lee and he thought the wood probably shrank over time and would be glad to fix it for free. I decided to try fixing it myself with a steel wedge (his alternate suggestion). I can assure you I was a little nervous about doing this to one of Lee's masterpieces ;). I am pleased the way it turned out and finished it up with a coating of epoxy. I wish I had a bit more angle on the wedge but it's not bad.

The next day I tried it out on a dry oak limb and it performed perfectly. Man that oak was some hard stuff, even with Lee's super sharp edge I had to work hard to get though that thing.

Also pictured is my double bit with a curly maple handle. I picked up the ash because I just couldn't bring myself to use that one. It's just too pretty!

Kurt I'm glad you got the axe fixed to your satisfaction. Those little Reeves axes sure are good lookers, I'll have to pick up another one of these days.

Two Reeves you are a lucky man. They are Beauties !
Thanks for pics.......

Fine lookin' pair you got there. Lee's axes are worth every cent and every minute of the wait.

Great review and pics, thanks!

Lee should be getting to my axes this August, now the wait has become harder.
