Well I'll start off by saying I really like a little age on my slip joints. I specify slip joints because I'm not as picky about fixed blades and I usually have a small SAK on me. I like carbon steel, bone handles, half stops, nickel silver bolsters and using the knives I own. I definitely don't have any problems with newer stuff, but lately I've been thinning out the old knife box and sinking my money into knives that are at least 30 years old or better. I don't have problems with others that collect just to admire either, but for me lately I've felt a need to only have things that I use. This weekend I went to a show and sold about 15 newer Case knives. Took a bit of a loss, but I'd rather someone else own them that will use them than just have them sitting in my safe. Anyway I hadn't posted in a while and thought I'd share a pic of my latest purchase. A 1978 Case Splitback Whittler. She got some pocket time today and will continue to until those blades turn a nice dark grey.

So how about it, share some splitback whittler pics!!

I carry that same knife once in a while in white bone, that is slowly aging in color to a golden tan.

The 6308 has always been one of my favorite patterns. The pattern is well known by most serious CASE collectors for it's sometimes nearly impossible to open master blade. Obviously not all examples of the pattern exhibit this characteristic, but many do. I once had a 4 dot (1976) that I literally had to keep a piece of heavy string under the blade to assist in pulling the blade open.

Durwood, I actually picked up a couple that had that problem. I found one that opened well and bought that one. Didn't realize that pattern had that issue.
