This new LS is simply awesome. An LED light that rivals an incandescent.

For those that don't know, the Arc-LS is a new flashlight from the same makers as the Arc-AAA and the Arc-LE.
This one uses a completely different luxeon-star LED and can run off of 3 different battery configurations.

The LED and circuit board are mounted in the head which is threaded onto one of three different battery chambers.
One accepts 1 AA battery, one accepts 2 AA batteries and the last accepts 1 lithium 123 battery.
All of the pieces are hard anodized aluminum.

Using the 2-AAs, the light is similar in size to a mini-Mag but easily outshines it.
While the Mag might throw a tighter beam, the LS throws a remarkably even circle of bright white light that to me is much more useful.
And while the Mag might shine longer at optimum brightness, once the batteries begin to die the light will quickly diminsh to an almost useless level.
The LS will only stay at optimum brightness for maybe an hour but then will dim only slightly.
I left it on for 7 hours yesterday and it was still bright enough to light something 3 feet away. I could still easily use it to read by.

Using the 123 battery produces the same level of light in a package only slightly larger than the 123 battery itself.
The 1-AA is a happy medium size-wise but produces marginally less light.

At $90-$150 for the 4-piece kit (LED head plus all 3 battery chambers) this will not be a flashlight for everyone but for the gadget lover this thing is doozy.

yep, what he said. Carry mine every day now. I tie the sucker to my belt loop, too afraid to lose it.
