about 2 month ago, i bought the large CRKT point guard, but the liner locked right in the middle of the blades tang and under normal cutting pressure, the liner slipped up to the upper edge of the tang. i asked the CRKT team and they said that that's not normal... yesterday i recieved the new knife - and it's nearly the same problem!
so now my question.. is that really a problem? is that normal on CRKT knifes? what's your experience with CRKT locks?
thanks a lot

I have several CRKT knives and my son has a few also. All of the liner locks are reliable and engage on the first third of the blade. I think one Columbia River does a good job on their liner locks. Adding the LAWKs makes them pretty immune to accidental closing.

never owned a point guard, but on all my other CRKT knives I've had no such problem. I'd send that knife back for another replacement.

I've never had any problem with CRKT's liner locks. All have been rock solid with little or no blade play.

I had a few CRKT including two point guards. That is one fine knife imo. The custom is very nice as well I hear. ANyway, back to the CRKT.
I had to send an M16 and a Tighe Tac back because the locks would fail and back then there was no lawks. I did get good service though. If you are not happy with it, send it back again, or sell/trade/gift it and get something else. I mean, you want a new knife, right?

In all honesty, there's enough reports of questionable CRKT liner locks that when asked, I usually tell people not to consider a CRKT liner lock that doesn't have the LAWKS. The lockup is very sound with the LAWKS. Some people get CRKT liner locks that pass every test in the book, but enough don't that the LAWKS is a requirement, in my mind.

surfer, I couldn't tell which way the liner was moving under pressure -- towards the far scale, or towards the near scale (where it might accidently unlock?).

Hey guys - I've been using a regular K.I.S.S. for about four years EDC and picked up an M-16 0Z as well as the little M-16 carbon. all have been carried and used under lots of different conditions and used for lots of things. All three have performed beyond expectations - IMO this is a reliable, durable and quality knife for the money! stress for the money! - The point guards I've handled and droooooled on all locked up and seemed to be as tough as the ones that I carry. I can't fault them.

hi Joe!
Now i recieved the new point guard, and the liner is a little better, but still don't lock where i would like (first1/3). the liner moves UP, away from the LAWKS, so there is no danger of accidentaly closing, especeally with the LAWKS. i will not send it back again, because of shipping costs and it's not that bad - btw. the knife is great! but would be better with aus8..

thanks a lot

Not to bash CRKT as they are a good company, but I have to agree with Joe on this. I have had more than a few of their liner locks go through my hands and it's about an even split on the reliability of the liner lock. I have had many fail with nothing more than pressure from my hand on the spine of the blade. It is my feeling they are working toward a solution.

The Point Guard, Falcon and KFF are all great designs from Pat Crawford and the production knives feel almost as good in the hand as the custom. If you like the knife, keep working with CRKT until you are satisfied. I think you'll get there. I strongly urge you not to compromise on the lock, make sure you are 100% satisfied.
