Little things I like about my Para.

I need to get this off my chest. Here's the list:

1) Thumb grooves - Those four little suckers are really grippy.
2) G-10 texturing - Nicely done compared to other knives in their class.
3) Curved clip - Follows the handle. Appears custom.
4) Lined thong hole - Nice touch.
5) Stainless pins - satin finish, not blackened.

Dang, that felt good. Now I can get on with my life. :D

The choil most certainly is one of the best features, since with it you can geta rock-solid grip, yet feel like your hand is almost on top of the blade. For cutting things where you want to be closer to the tip, your thumb can go almost in front of the hole, yet the choil prevents a possibly painful  slicing of your forefinger..

You didn't mention the compression lock. I think that it is important to mention because most compression lock are hard to disengage but the one on the para is really smooth :)

gull,

I agree. It is also very light weight for a full size folder.

Nick,

S30V steel, compression lock, smooth action, ergonomics are all a given. I was focusing on the little things. But you are right - the lock is smooth and solid!

i totally agree with all the comments thus far. my only complaint is the sharp edge of the tang when it is closed. with the tip-down configuration, it scrapes up my hand quite a bit.

I have heard the sharp tang complaint before. Fortunately, my tang came rounded and it's smooth as silk.

After reading all this good stuff about the Paramilitary I'm going to have to get one. It will be my next knife.

The looks of the clip have been mentioned, but I have to say I love how well it holds. When I have the Para clipped, I don't have to worry checking it every five seconds, it stays right where it's supposed to!

Also would like to mention that the black paint on the clip is tougher than most.....all my other spydercos have wire clips, so I can't compare there, but I have a few other knives with black clips, and the para's has easily out lived all of them.

i love my paramilitary so much i bought three more just to keep. the only problem i have with them is the clip scratches everything especailly my car door when getting in the car.

I really love my Para Military, I even love the things other people complain about, like:

1) Some people say the knife rides to high. I have found that the Para is the easiest knife to retrieve from my pocket when seated, or when wearing tighter jeans. I have found the inch or so of the knife that sticks out of my pocket to be very useful and wouldn't change it. If you want a dressy concealed knife, than buy one; the Para is a hard-working survival knife. I want easy access to my survival knife, don't you?

2) Its only tip blah-blah. The whole tip up or down debate has always really annoyed me. I have both tip up/down knives and like them for equal reasons, but never base a buying decision on that. The Para is the perfect tip down example, I can grab the Spydie hole (thanks to the high ride clip) and retrieve the knife Spyder-dropping it open in one smooth sweep. I love deploying my Para, and when I carry it I am more likely to play with my knife than with some of my other EDCs.

3) The blade to handle ratio is bad. I LOVE the blade to handle ratio of the Para. There is a big, sturdy, grippy and ergonomic G10 handle that makes the Para the most secure holding knife I own. Add in a finger choil, and a blade that is the perfect length to maintain tip control and you have a winner. If the blade was any longer I feel that the knife wouldn't be has useful for delicate tip cutting using that awsome finger choil. If the handle was any shorter you wouldn't have that sensational grip that is so confidence inspiring.

4) Compression lock, blah, blah. This one is easy. The compression lock is a FANTASTIC lock. There are no springs to break like the axis lock, it would be nearly impossible to foul up like a back lock, and it is easier with one-handed use. Just looking at the compression lock you can see how hard (almost want to say impossible) it would be to unintentionally disengage it. I own lock backs, liner locks and even a axis lock (mini-grip), but if I had to really put my life on the performance of one lock, it would actually be the compression lock.

Edited to say: I really don't think I am biased here. I own several tactical style knives like the Para, many I've paid more money for. I don't love these things because I own the Para, I still own my Para because I love these things.

I agree the Para is a great knife. I would like a more balanced blade to handle ratio myself. I spend most of my time in Sheepleville so a low ride wire clip would be a plus. When I go to the woods I carry my big burly Manix. I think the new Caly 3 will be just the ticket for EDC. When are they coming out?

Rusty,

Great post. You just saved me a bunch of time writing down my thoughts. I totally agree with your assessment of the blade to handle ratio.

I'm really enjoying mine as well. I would like to see it ride a bit lower in the pocket. I would also like the clip to not flare out quite so much at the end (which would reduce the scratching and damage it does to things around me). A low-ride clip with a subdued flare (or just a rolled-over end) would really make this knife shine.
