How many cuts and or burns do you have right now? I have 11 at the moment but that number will probably go up tonight.

Mark

Does that include the three fingertips I ground off on a 50 grit belt, and the two finger nails on the other hand that got torn off? Other than that, I'm only at six cuts, two burns, and four puncture wounds.

No cuts at the moment..But that is because I have had a very bad Tooth Ache that has festered up and the dentist gave me some antibiotics and pain killers for it and then will extract the tooth Friday. The pills make me sleepy and I know better than to work in the shop or I will mess up more than my hands.
I will be glad when The Dentist says that he will work out some kind of payment plan to get my mouth fixed. It is going to cost $3000.00 after insurance to get my mouth fixed...And that is allot of knives to sell...
You guys need to be more careful and quit cutting yourselves;) It hurts when you do that.:p

Two fingertips removed on my 80 grit disc sander and two knuckles with a 60 grit belt. I like when you look at the knuckles and all of a sudden you see little pools of blood popping out of nice clean skin.

ive got some swamp land for sale.:) the pads of my thumbs are always healing and peeling. i did a good on on the left index finger when i jammed it into the edge of a 600g super flex j. whent about a third of the way throug the tip before i noticed some thing hurting?

You guys must fall down alot:D
what hands one scare just leads to the other:(
I fall down alot
:D

Pristine... I think a lot of my hands, I'd be a lunatic without the ability to make stuff. To me my hands are like Infantry feet - you're dead without em. So I really watch out, seldom <knocking wood> get injured. Once in a while I get one that bites, but usually the knives are well mannered. :)

Nice thread!
I only have 3 nicks from a 60 grit belt right now. I try real hard to protect myself now days. I did count scars while examining my hands, 24! I have stories for most of them. :)

I don't normally work hard enough to loose any bark. I do have a problem with fingernails geting ground off. I must be holding the blade backwards.
Just a side tip for those of you who are still trying to look good for the ladies, If your hands get black from fin grit wet and dry sanding, Hydrogen Peroxide (excuse the spelling if wrong) get your hands clean Peroxide is the stuff bottle blondes used to use. It was actually a tip from a leather work class I went to. It cleans your hands so the black does not stain the leather.
I have not ground any thing for 3 weeks so I have no marks at the moment.

Hey guys, what about using protective gloves?
Now, lemme see...
Healing blister on left thumb for having wound up 30 meters of twisted wire on a sword grip.
Healing blister between first and second phalanx of right index finger for same reason.
Almost healed cut in third phalanx of right index finger for hand slipped down a file
Small insect (spider?) bite on left palm
Healing blisters on left hand little finger because when I was brazing a piece of wire in place the brass rod slipped and as an idiot I reflexively catched it in mid air... obviously the red-hot portion...:grumpy:
Luckily enough the molten flux formed almost instantly a crust on the skin protecting me somehow from the searingly hot metal.. Not a pleasure anyway... Only time I welded without gloves, obviously :(
But normally My hands are ok. It just happens to be a bad period.

I'm in one of my rare states of no cuts at the moment, but I do have epoxy under all my nails. Lots of different colors too...looks like a rainbow:D

I think it is my intention to refine every completed project with my blood! Not on purpose.
Healing, Lynn

5 cuts = 2 from balisong + 3 from playing with a freshly ground outline (sharp burr).

3 blisters.

I like to grind without gloves.

I read this post earlier and thought about what a bunch of dummies you all were. Then after talking to Indian George about how to etch my cable damascus blade, I went back to the shop. While admiring my near perfect etch, I lovingly ran my thumb down the edge and AAAAAAH! Why do I keep doing that??? So count me for 2 burns, and a really good cut on the thumb! The cable cuts just fine George, thanks again!
