I have never really thought seriously about Tomahawks antil now. I went to a local attraction here in Indiana and threw a tomahawk for the first time and learned about their versatile uses. I want to get one but dont want to spend more than $40ish. I would use this only for throwing and minor camp chores. What do you suggest? Any pointers or advise would be great. Thanks.

This.

But get it elsewhere, even Amazon sells them for a better price.

It's a handy little tomahawk that has a decent size edge and the hammer poll is useful. If you'd like a little more edge than that the pipe hawk model is also a hammer poll and features a larger edge and longer haft(handle). They're both great for the cost.

My first (and so far only) hawk is a CS Trailhawk. I like it.
If you shop around you can find them for about 30 shipped.

Probably one of the reaons the sticky threads on modding it exists is that they need a bit of TLC. Mine did not come with a usable edge, I covexed it with sandpaper, now it chops nicely. I also whittled and sanded the poll a bit for a better fit.

For throwing and minor camp chores get an Allan foundry, can be bought from www.ragweedforge.com

They're bigger, not the best edge retention, great for throwing, decent for chopping and much better quality than any cold steel hawk.

Looking For any and all help for getting and build my first tomahawk pipe. Knowing nothing about building one and countless hours of web searching to find designs that might be close to my liking. Only finding that the ones I liked were far out of my affordability range. I'm striking out to try to build my own. I recently purchased the ( Instructions & Hints For Assembling Pipe tomahawks.. By Gerald Gutchess & Alan Gutchess) My liking of head type is the English Pattern "not really sure of bowl style yet". Knowling nothing of metal working, heating, metal types or much of what I read so far. Not not having a shop of anything out of the normal everyday person of small hand/power tools. I'm leaning towards such pre-made kits from such places as: R.E. Davis or Track Of The Wolf. Unless anyone else knows a better place. I first found this site on one of my many web searches and come across a 2006 talk on about the same subject. Figuring maybe this was the best place to start. So I'm open for any and all suggestions or any type of help that can be offered.

Welcome to the forum. You should start a new thread for this. It might get lost in this thread.
