Looking for a new hatchet/small axe

I’m going to see about upgrading my hatchet choice in the next couple of weeks I believe.

I have a Fiskars 14” hatchet now. I believe I’m going to look into Wetterlings. I see they have a 15” & 19” that both look promising. Since I don’t have anyone local that carries them, I’d like some suggestions of online resources that you’ve dealt with that you’ve had good luck with.

If they are forum members, to me that’s a plus.

Thanks in advance for your time!

I've got a Gransfors Bruks small forrest axe and it is sweet. I wanted something that was small and easy to pack but able to swing to cut wood, etc.

This is where I get my Wetterlings. Best prices I have found and very quick shipping. They are also one of the largest Bark River dealers, as well as Hess brand knives, Opinels, and a few others too. Tell him the guy from Iron River told you about him, maybe he will cut you some kind of deal. Good luck in your search.

Stormstaff!

You need to stop by the shop. I`ve got a sweet old US made Collins I refurbished that you can have for free. I cleaned up the head and put a new handle on it. Give me a holler!

Oh boy Stomper, careful where you go advertising that Collins! I would love to have one of those myself, and a lot of others would too!!

As far as Stormstaff's original question, I'll give you my opinion. The 19" Wetterlings is more of a long-handled hatchet that can be used with two hands if you need to. If you prefer one-handed use, the 15" will probably be the way to go. The 19" still is quite packable and does fine on somewhat larger wood, say up to 5 or 6 inches is about as much as I'd really tackle with it were I making firewood. It does quite well on green wood though, and although it is a bit of work I have felled a couple trees up to 10 or 11 inches with it.

Dave and Bill Bradey (Crystal Falls Trading Co.) are great guys to work with. They stand behind the products they sell. I know that from personal experience. (I got a Wetterlings that wasn't properly heat treated).
